all white, a little red

[easyrotator]erc_88_1370043661[/easyrotator]

To greet the weekend, definitely going with one of the basic tenets of every day dress: enjoy a glass of wine.

As promised yesterday, here is the new neutral-  all white, with a little red in the shoe and the bracelet. A glass of red helps with the photo composition, too.

Love buying good clothes and accessories and wearing them all the time. Women, let’s wear our stuff, what are we waiting for?

Barbara, loved too our lunch date yesterday. Jeans and tank seen here? They will be worn and worn and worn until they can’t be worn any more and then be cleaned. Easier on the environment, easier on the mind when wondering what to wear, and easier on the packing when wanting to get away quick and light.

Every day dress wears all white on a Friday with a little red in the shoe and a little red in the hand.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Thanks for reading. Stressed about the blog yesterday, we are at 45,000 site views so some of you must find this a little interesting…

two things

[easyrotator]erc_27_1369970726[/easyrotator]

Making dinner and walking outdoors are two things that can make any good day better.

It’s been busy, full house this past weekend and every meal felt like a party. For Wednesday night send-off for Boston College daughter chicken fajitas and spanish rice for six required practically every pan in the kitchen. Dinner for six was the smallest party since last week Thursday.

To keep from going over the edge, getting outdoors, out of the office  and out of the kitchen for a long walk refuels the mind and body for whatever comes up next.

Food and fitness, keep it coming.

instead of

[easyrotator]erc_8_1369968349[/easyrotator]

For a busy day look chose a longer length black skirt, side ruched tee, and lug soled sandals instead of the requisite black jeans or black pants.

Super easy, yes, it’s mostly black, but it’s a skirt and the longer length made it feel different. Feeling like the skinny jeans have been getting way too much play.

Next, instead of black, will definitely have to move towards another neutral, maybe white.

Every day dress does a longer length black skirt instead of black skinnies. Felt good, and different.

one new sweater

[easyrotator]erc_0_1369703853[/easyrotator]

While we love looking at all the online shopping sites and fashion blogs that have maybe eleven brand new essential pieces to pack for the beach, the city, or the country, this here is every day dress and some days we are happy to get a hot shower. New clothes are great, for sure, there is also so much else going on out there that it’s not always practical to buy and pack an entire new wardrobe for a few days away.

Here’s the one new sweater: wore this for traveling out to the country on Saturday, put it on with the yoga pants for Sunday morning coffee outside on the deck, wore it over the bikini poolside when some coverage was needed for drop by brother-in-laws. Put it back on late Monday, back to the city we go, and with one new sweater for this past weekend away, we were every day dressed. Mixed the one new sweater in with all the other wardrobe pieces collected over the years.

Every day dress loves being inspired by all that’s new out there, thank you, also loves having one new sweater to get away from it all in.

Hope everyone out there had a great holiday weekend.

ten plus ten

[easyrotator]erc_69_1369675565[/easyrotator]

When dinner in the country for ten turns into dinner for twenty plus, go with it. Nothing better than serving our country’s future home cooked food.

Have on hand an extra-long picnic table plus one, always have room for extra, half a dozen machine washable table cloths and to be certain at least three dozen cloth napkins. Stacks of flatware, plates, canning jars for fresh-cut whatever, and plenty of glassware goes without saying.

A little busy and hectic up front, it’s fun to cook and serve home made-mac and cheese, pasta broccoli, green beans, roasted potatoes, tossed green salad, rib eye, tenderloin, chicken, chocolate chip cookies, fudge marble cake and ice cream? When you have generations for Memorial Day weekend or even any day in particular, go for it, put out the dog even in the most casual way, and watch your dinner guests enjoy themselves and the company of all those around them. So worth it.

Every day dress wishes everyone out there the confidence to cook home cooked food for dozens, to extend an extra invitation when not always certain, and to go for it in general.

Ten plus ten. Cook it and they will come.

Happy Memorial Day all family and friends.

didn’t take long

[easyrotator]erc_96_1369504191[/easyrotator]

White jeans, always a basic, and dressed up fitted long-sleeved navy tee, didn’t take long to get dressed for dinner out with the big group. Added last year’s sandals and a bright red bag, Memorial Day weekend after all, and to keep it just a little off put a soft butter yellow leather jacket over it all. Kind of like when things aren’t always perfectly matched up, keeps it more interesting.

New distressed jeans from last post? Already gone. That didn’t take long either. Second daughter claims she doesn’t have any jeans, really, and needed them for her night out.

Good thing the feeling for the weekend is not always perfectly matched up, keeps things more interesting for sure.

downtime

[easyrotator]erc_17_1369428810[/easyrotator]

For this Memorial Day weekend, choosing some downtime. Downtime not really . House will be full in several hours, all six kids home and dinner out tonight for ten, eight of us plus two dates.

Downtime as in pause, remember, reflect. Remembering the men and women that gave their lives while serving. Yes, amid a flurry of family activity will pause  throughout the weekend to reflect on our many blessings and to remember those that came before and served in the highest sense. Every day dress honors all Americans who have died while in the military service.

For downtime on a Friday afternoon, wore new distressed DL1961 Amanda skinnies, a heather grey flannel easy cowl pullover (44 degrees here in late May), and Tory Burch sandals. Chanel 657 Azuré Nail Colour is a current favorite .

Wishing everyone a time to pause, remember, reflect.

Don’t worry mom, I know that both you and Tim Gunn don’t approve of the jeans. They will undoubtedly end up in one of three daughter’s closets this weekend. Fourth daughter doesn’t yet fit. 🙂 Funky nail colour? That will come off after a weekend of gardening…

work from home

[easyrotator]erc_36_1369176562[/easyrotator]

For many women, work from home is a great thing. This post is for dear friend and new work from home colleague, Lori Stevenson.

The necklace worn in Saturday’s white on white post? By Lori. The Buddha necklace? Lori, too. Each necklace is custom-made from her carefully selected collection of gemstones, pearls, rondelles and vintage brooches. Her work from home business is fairly new and her website just launched last week Thursday. Love the two pieces I bought, received compliments from the tailor today, and he knows good things. Every day dress wishes you abundant success. Lori’s beautiful and one of a kind works can be seen here, Lori StevensonJewelry.com.

Work from home clothes? Yes, when you work from home it could be quite easy to slip into the yoga pant habit. No way. Black cotton blouse with a collar, gray skinny jeans, real shoes or boots, and a quick run with the flat-iron and five minutes of makeup so elevates the work from home default of black yoga pants. Lori, your work is beautiful and I love how a single piece compliments a simple column of color. Finishes a look fast and helps make me feel dressed. So easy. Thank you.

Work from home, a great thing. Lori, congratulations on finding your niche and best wishes always. Couldn’t be happier for you. xoxo

are you wearing the right size?

[easyrotator]erc_39_1369095112[/easyrotator]

Many of my clients arrive wearing clothes that are simply too big. Yes, we all have body image issues going on, large or small, haven’t really met too many women that don’t, but, are you wearing the right size?

Take some time, check and really look at what you are wearing, disregard the size on the tag, and consult maybe with a trusted confident or professional to see if you are truly wearing the right size.

Most women, and I speak from experience here, wear, buy, and order clothing that is too large. A fitted silhouette on all figures, size 0 or 16, is truly more flattering.

Worked with my mom for two years to get her to go down from a size MD to SM. Her shape did not change. Her look was simply more by wearing clothing that was closer to her body. She is 74 and a good size 12 in skirts, sometimes 10, and pants. On top she always thought she was a MD, no, a SM looks so much better. She agrees and is now happy and more confident.

So, here is the question, are you wearing the right size? Do you feel good in your clothing? Would love to hear your thoughts…

Dress shown, Worth New York | Summer 2013 | size XP and size SM, which do you prefer? I can take the heat if you think the size XP is too tight, size PT, sold out. Wanted the dress.

Really trying to help, have seen so many women wear clothing that is simply too big for them…

Every day dress.

white on white

[easyrotator]erc_65_1368879839[/easyrotator]

For Friday night dinner out visiting new friends in their beautiful new home, chose white on white. After a busy week with work, family, life, couldn’t really think about what to wear so did the single color default, like wearing all black, but this time settled on white on white.

The monochromatic look on the body settled the rather erratic happenings in the mind. Honestly, after a full week the simple clothes that were put on for Friday night dinner out helped to calm me down and to enjoy the entire evening: arriving at a new place, being greeted by lovely new friends, enjoying a glass of Chardonnay in their living room while listening to elegant and easy music, helping a very small bit in the kitchen, and then moving to the dining room for an absolutely divine dinner of short ribs, pureed parsnips, sautéed mushrooms, and simple salad. The wines, two cab francs, amazing. The desert, chocolate lava cake, creme fraiche, fresh raspberries, all with a small glass of decadent port, rounded out the entire meal indeed.

Barbara, you spoiled us well and we are grateful and appreciative guests. Bill, thank you for pouring and sharing some pretty amazing wines from your cellar. It was a memorable evening, we value our new friendship, and look forward to more shared meals and good times ahead.

So, heartbeat of this little blog, every day dress, put on your nice clothes, make some dinner, light some candles, enjoy a glass of wine, life is very good. Thank you Barbara and Bill.

I was wearing a truly old I am guessing ten years white linen shirt, last season’s 7 for all mankind white jeans, still look pretty fresh, again probably ten years old Hermes reversible belt, and very new, Thursday nights purchase which requires a post all of its’ own, vintage brooch necklace designed and handmade by friend Lori Stevenson.

Every day dress. Your clothes don’t need to be brand new all the time, simply put on and wear your good stuff even if it’s a decade old. Some things look and feel better over time.
