fifteen, times six

What used to be a full-out cotton candy bounce house snow cone popcorn machine invite everyone and then some jam party is now an intimate all at one table for dinner gathering. When you create a big life it often times calls for less, and less is great.

Fourth daughter sixth child turned fifteen last Sunday, and the family proper (all eight of us and a girlfriend), one grandmother, one aunt and one uncle broke bread.

Bought groceries, two dozen roses and ordered a walk-in take-out whole beef tenderloin trimmed and tied at the local butcher before leaving ski town. Headed north to the country place and cooked up a small storm. Box cake, and peach blueberry kind of crumble with lots of cut in butter is love for dessert.

It’s been a busy runaround week, last Sunday feels like last month or so, when you do fifteen times six (or five if you count the twins as two for one) the time between seems to get quicker and quicker. Peanut, love you to the moon and back.

Let’s all enjoy these last days of August, ready or not. xoxo

going long

IMG_1376

For second night out in ski country with husband’s law firm, went with a long skirt that was picked up when oldest son was a freshman in high school, now he’s a first year associate in said firm, back in our home town after seven years away for undergrad and law school, life is sweet.

Going long with the wardrobe is sweet too. It’s great to have pieces that can hang around for eleven or twelve years. The key is to pick good shape, good color, and good fabric. Pairing the long black skirt with the newer navy crepe jersey scarf blouse keeps the skirt feeling fresh and modern, always love black and navy.

For quick easy getaway packing went with solid colors; white, black, navy, one cuff bracelet, one necklace, two pairs of boots, and one bag.

Out of town colleague asked me today about #walkable boots. These are new ones from one of two current favorite Parisian women designers, Laurence Dacade. Her stuff is great, and I’ve become a little obsessed.

IMG_1384

The long necklace is from Rochester NY friend and stylist Monica and her new jewelry company Dripping in Gems. Women working in fashion, love love love.

Every day dress, going long. Happy Monday everyone, below is how we’re going to get through the week: a slightly mad dash, #walkable, and with an open back.

fast dressing

This man of mine has us always moving; last weekend house guests from CA out in the country place, this weekend ski town for the office retreat.

Add in kids, dogs, meal prep and work you love and you need some fast dressing skills to keep pace.

Fast dressing here entails lots of denim, washable silk blouses, walkable boots, great underthings, and some good accessories.

Pulled this blue velvet wrap from the stash before heading out, blue and white always a classic combination yet with cooler nights now loving the texture and contrast of velvet. Same blouse as earlier weeknight post, that’s how it goes, wear your favorites.

Every day dress, white denim, white silk, blue velvet, fast dressing.

tie one on

IMG_1297

IMG_1291

It’s almost the weekend so let’s all get ready to tie one on, kidding, not. Actually, we should simply take the entire month of August off and hang in the Mediterranean. As that’s not happening decided to go with the sea inspired scarf and an all white ensemble, again, for a night out with all the kids (six!) home.

Clients tell me they are scarf challenged: it’s easy, simply tie one on. The more casual and unstudied, the better.

Jeans are a little snug, we’ve been eating and drinking all over the place, and never mind about the absent manicure and pedicure, we’re all here.

Every day dress, happy Friday everyone, tie one on. xx

a new black sweater

WNY153_Lifestyle_08

While we’re all squeezing the last bit out of summer twenty fifteen and simultaneously trying to get back into a steady work groove, a new black sweater has been on the mind.

Happens always this time of year: the summer wardrobe feels spent and I’m feeling in limbo and wanting some change. Oldest daughter is feeling it too, she texted me from her fancy NYC job all I want to do is browse and buy fall clothing !! Not ready to do the wardrobe shift over, it’s still hot as heck, yet I’ve been around long enough to know that most women will wear and benefit from a new black sweater come mid-August. There are those cool nights you can pair it with your white denim or be bold and wear it casual over your swimsuit with wet hair. Come those cooler fall days, and come they will, simple to pair with standard black.

Just ordered this Black Leather Trimmed Cowl Neck Pullover, the one modeled by stunning Elaine Irwin on the left, and can’t wait to put it into the daily/nightly/weekly rotation.

Every day dress, a new black sweater.

blue jeans baby

The bag obsession continues: started with the very first real paycheck at the age of sixteen and now at fifty still can’t kick it. Good/bad habits, so hard to break.

With age comes knowledge, and now that we know that blue jeans baby are eighty percent of the daily rotation, picked up the last bag with that look in mind. It’s so denim, right?

And, as we’re about food too here’s what was cooking: boneless leg of lamb, roasted potatoes, haricots verts, green salad. As a stylist should have put the green in the middle, better presentation, oh, well. Live and learn, kind of in a hurry.

Every day dress, blue jeans baby. Dress, bags, and food for life.

oh, that top

IMG_1128

IMG_1127

Some things simply sell out, done, can’t get it. Bought this top in both colors, navy and black. Shown here, navy with floral silk pant, in hot hot Paris.

DIY home improvement projects, wood glue, black scarf tie top and laundry duty simply don’t mix, so only have the navy left. This top makes the rotation here from the fourteen year old to the fifty year old and have an almost seventy year old client rocking it too. Worth New York, please recut, black.

Every day dress and oh, that top. Pack it up and wear it eight different ways. Trunk show going on now through August 19th.

make it white

We’re all about stacking the closet for fall twenty fifteen, and here’s a look for all on the go women:

Total travel and runaround outfit, and, the jacket you can make white, it’s reversible. This look will work for all of us. Change your shoe/boot, change your bag, reverse the jacket, it’s all about you.

In the meantime while there’s still some summertime left, we’re all about make it white. Travel outfit worn on the train from London to Paris, stayed at the train station and cabbed it to the hotel, therefore the heel, kind of #walkable. Céline sunglasses always help.

dinner date

It’s Monday, we’re back in the home office deep, prepping to help women build wardrobes that get them dressed and on their way.

Whatever your day look is, your night look can always be a quick black dress. Pulled this one out of the bag on the floor and shimmied into it for an on the go dinner date. Red lip, wrap that was carried and slept with on the plane, and done.

streetwalking

Walked days and miles all over the streets of Edinburgh Scotland. Wore the ubiquitous: white shirt, blue jeans, black jacket. Modern women seem to have these things, often in multiples, and in heavy rotation. To make it my own added camel stacked heel boots, obviously a black bra underneath, and structured shoulder bag, umbrella tucked inside. There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing choices. Outfit felt right, was easy to move in, and covered all outdoor conditions.

Easing back into the real world, and will be all about styling the women in my life for their changing days this week Thursday 8/13 to next week Wednesday 8/19 in Buffalo NY, and then again Tuesday, 8/25 to Friday 8/28 in Rochester NY.
