over what?

At times, it’s in the details; as noted, on Monday we went back to the trainer/gym after a five month hiatus. Hey, we we’re traveling, parenting teenagers, working, living, cooking. Mortifying, he weighed, measured, (even the neck!!), and calculated body fat percentage. Ouch.

Went home that night with two figures, weight and body fat, and sat on the couch lol and googled what was normal, average, for a fifty year old woman.

Well, hello there. We are overweight. Not overdressed, over-loved, over-shopped, simply bordering here on scary stuff, overweight.

Good food and great wine doesn’t discriminate, that stuff loves everyone.

Soooo, instead of getting all freaked out and crazy we’re simply taking note of what’s going on, it’s been a way fun ride, and stepping it up in the gym and dialing it down at the table. Crazy stuff never seems to work here for us, it’s more about slow and steady and more often than not there’s a bump in the road.

We’re not giving up on our farmer’s market trips, or converting to eating anything frozen or pre-measured, no way in hell. Cooking cooking cooking, moving moving moving, and lifting kind of heavy weights two times a week. 10,000 steps a day? That’s a given.

Overweight, over what? See ya.

back to our wicked ways

Quick post, it’s Monday and we’ve got a sick one at home :(.

th?id=OP

For the next week or so we’ll be back to Essie Wicked, one of our dark favorites for short nails.

Nothing quite beats the white silk blouse blue denim jeans black leather jacket when you need to be dressed in five minutes or less.

Went back to the gym today after about five months off, wicked wicked wicked, we’ll be sore tomorrow for sure.

Happy Monday all.

where the magic happens

Yesterday was a wrap for our October trunk show, we’ll be back again the second week of November if you missed us.

We had some magic happening in that room of ours, beautiful women interacting with beautiful clothing. Second daughter and her friend came by and of course they were looking for the wine, it was 10:30 am on a regular Thursday. We poured some wine for them and then continued right on with our afternoon clients. Clothes and spirits were flying.

Also on our calendar is a street style runway show to benefit WNY Women’s Foundation on Friday November 6th. One of the looks we’re playing with is a featherweight long bronze taffeta skirt, white stretch cotton french cuffed blouse, aka one of our favorites Carolyn Roehm, and then mixing in a biker inspired suede belt and leopard cashmere scarf at the neck.

As mentioned we’re reading Donna Karan’s My JourneyLove how she writes about leaving her office to run home and make dinner for her daughter and husband. Love that our work allows us to do the after school pick-up, put some chickens in the oven and then run back downtown for the pack-up.

Every day dress, where the magic happens, a very good day.

keep those things

IMG_2012

IMG_2003

Picked these one size up black jeans a few years ago in some international airport before a long haul flight back home. Needed to change into something fresh and comfortable quick, and they fit the bill. Wore them again yesterday, needed something that fit, lol.

Always tell my girls and clients that a five or ten pound swing happens, so be it. Sometimes up, sometimes down. Oldest daughter put on fifteen when she was living in Spain and eating tapas, she’s now down. We here have gone up, when you are traveling all over and eating and drinking with reckless abandon, stuff happens.

IMG_1983

Good thing we kept those jeans. And the sleeveless belted jacket? Bought that several seasons ago as well. Reading Donna Karan’s My Journey and like she says women rarely gain weight in their shoulders so show the shoulders I did. They might be a little rounder, that’s okay.

A column of black, while not original, gets you out the door.

Every day dress, keep those things. 🙂

Have a great Thursday everyone.

working towards smart

Okay, Monday mid-afternoon and we haven’t updated the bloggie regularly. We’ve been working towards smart and here’s what we’re up to:

  • went shopping to stock and decorate the new digs, picked up gourds, kale, pumpkins, flowers, lightbulbs, and Good & Plenty, of course.
  • everything you see here, we moved in ourselves, desk, chairs, bookshelves, mirror, rolling racks, router, printer, women power, for sure.
  • no shame in wearing flat brogues with a menswear inspired shirt-dress. On those days when you’re on your feet all day, we’re working towards smart. 🙂
  • we’ve got a hint of pink going on, breast cancer awareness, always.

We’re mid-way through our fall winter twenty-fifteen trunk show, and we’ll be back at it again November 6th through the 13th.

Every day dress, working towards smart. Still using the iPhone for pics, even though we found the battery charger we couldn’t find the camera.

Wishing everyone an awesome week.

happy right now

While it might be a beautiful world to have the gardens and prep the meals (not to mention her interiors yet’s that’s an entirely different chapter) that our #lifegoals tastemaker Carolyn Roehm puts out, we’re happy right now with simple things.

Husband and I planted a row of hydrangea late spring, 7 plants in total. We tended them off and on all summer and kind of thought they were on the edge. Last weekend spent one day at the country place to put away all the seasonal furniture and there they were: looking established, great, healthy. Beautiful and simple. Cut some stems and brought them back to the city house.

Food has been simple too. Baked fish, roasted zucchini and tomatoes, spinach salad. Photos taken with the iPhone, food was way better than it looks, couldn’t find the battery charger for the digital camera, and the battery was toast.

First day at the new office, what a whirlwind.

Every day dress, happy right now.

meet michelle

Tuesday afternoon after a long weekend and it’s absolutely double Monday. With Friday and yesterday off, and it was a gorgeous weekend with all six kids and friends in ski town, we’re playing catch-up like mad.

In fact, it’s been a little mad for a while, where do these days/months/years go?

Momma always says just when you think you can’t handle one more thing, things get better. Momma’s right. 🙂

Meet Michelle; she’s the partner I’ve written about, and she’s beyond. We get each other, and she brings great energy and balance to our growing team. In fact, you can read her styling story on her personal page, www.worthnewyork.com/michelle-capizzi. Should you not want to click I’ve copied and pasted below:

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I am an artist. Styling is another way for me to express my creativity. Life can be complicated but dressing should be easy and fun. I am all about women feeling good with themselves inside and out. We all change over the years. I love to embrace our individual forms and turn each of my clients into a piece of art. Supporting women to succeed in whatever they are passionate about it keeps me going!

simple with a splash of fun. I am a pretty casual girl. Being a mom of three active young men, I find myself in many modes everyday. Plus I live in Western New York and our weather is unpredictable. When I get dressed in the am who knows what the day will throw at me. A good fitting pant and simple top can take me anywhere. Many days you’ll find in my bag a few pairs of shoes, all day on the move gotta keep it going! With that simple platform I can add anything to it, a jacket to dress it up or a scarf for fun. And if I’m in a super rush a solid dress always works. Sometimes we over think dressing. I keep my closet simple. Then I have more time for FUN!

I’m busy with my family. As i mentioned I have three young men, Massimo, Benjamin and Sammy. My husband, Sam and I love to cook and enjoy wine. At the end of the day you can usually find me cooking. Dinner and family together first! I feel blessed to live in Western New York and love to give back as a volunteer. Many days you will find me out and about working on various events. When I have a little time for myself I practice yoga a few days a week. But in the winter I have been known to escape skiing as much as possible. Evenings usually find me painting in my studio. Life is good but always busy so i keep my dress simple. Why complicate the good stuff, right!?
This Friday October 16th to next week Thursday October 22nd we’ll be styling women in our new space in downtown Buffalo, 651 Delaware Ave. To see us in action or for your own private one hour appointment, you can now book with us online at www.worthnewyork.com/rebecca-collins, for me, or www.worthnewyork.com/michelle-capizzi, for Michelle. Simply click on the BOOK APPOINTMENT box when you get to our page. We love building wardrobes together and with the women in our lives.

running on empty

IMG_1888

Stuff’s going on, as it always will. Late to the blog, photo shown here taken Saturday in Toronto, ON, we’ve been running on empty.

To keep on keeping on we’re down to the basics: make the bed, protein for breakfast, walk the dogs, make some dinner, enjoy  a glass of wine, spend time with those you love.

Every day dress, running on empty, filling up the tank. xo

Black turtleneck, black pants, (even a size up), and black boots can get you through, or pick your neutral. Always have a good scarf or wrap on hand.

making moves

beckie collins 3

First day of October and all around we’re making moves. Sometimes slow, and always more involved and taking longer than you expect, oh, well.

Second daughter signed her lease on a mid-town apartment (she’s moving out) and us here (we’re moving in) at every day dress have officially signed down-town at The Plaza Suites. Women power, for sure, but never underestimate or fail to value those men behind us, never ever.

We have a phone! and a receptionist! conference space! one underground parking space! windows!, a professional office suite #101 with our name on the door…a room of our own.

We’ve done a photo-shoot with a local woman photographer, thank you Missy Kennedy Photography, and need to update all social media, yikes.

It all takes time, going in a forward direction, making moves, all around.

Every day dress women. Let’s always be part of making good things happen.

Fall Winter Trunk Show happening Friday October 16th – Thursday, October 22nd.

ps. Every woman should own this shirt, in all colors, makes daily dressing easier. You can even sleep in it and get out of bed in the morning looking pretty great. Black | White | Cream. Machine wash and dry, sweet.
