moving towards wrap

Professionally, we’re moving towards wrap on the FW17 fashion season. Still in the studio, organizing last-minute wardrobe fill-ins, party outfits, travel wardrobes, and special gift giving. Our clients seem to be pretty well dressed and organized, us, not so much. 🙂 We’ll get it done, we always do, yet it all kind of feels surreal.

Christopher Radko ‘white wedding’ ornament at each brunch setting

thank you, Lexi, had to post twice, double delicious

Personally, instead of shopping and decorating and card writing and baking we’re simply hanging out in the kitchen, putting out brunch, pitcher’s of bloody’s, triple batches of Bolognese, and hoping the Christmas elves, that would be us, would come on in and kick it into gift-giving high gear.

Honestly, we’re moving there, towards wrap17 on all things, simply having some major inertia.

Wishing everyone out there the mojo and spirit to get it all done, with a little style and a little grace. xoxo

oh, Meghan, this white coat’s for you, heartfelt congratulations

Okay, so now here’s the footnote: blogging best practice says posts should be at least 300 words, we usually clock in at about 110. Also: include clickable links, and tags, yikes, we have zero to minimal links and no tags at all, so we’re so not searchable, oh, well. And, post on a regular schedule, totally missing that one. We’re all about a little cottage industry here, so if you’re logged on and reading, thank you sincerely. xoxo, again.

good stock

Two of our favorite feel good things, beautiful, comfortable clothing and soulful, delicious food, share the good stock rule:

  • Buy and source the best you can, given your location and budget.
  • Strive to always have the basics; with clothing great knits (sweater, skirt, cardigan, dress, or combination, merino wool, cashmere), equally great black pants, denim if you’re a creative, single or double faced wool or tech if you’re more corporate, white shirts, something striped, a good bag, good shoes, over the top lingerie, and some sort of great coat and/or jacket. With food it’s all about fresh; lean protein, huge amounts of vegetables (always including onion, carrots, celery, garlic) and fruits, organic eggs, olive oil, butter is love, pasta, grains and beans, and exquisitely made house stock.
  • Develop a sound relationship with your purveyor, and shop seasonally.
  • Use all that you have and acquire in full rotation, and down to it’s core, or move it on to others, in feeding and/or dressing.

Here at the every day we rely mostly on our best basics and mix in some luxury. For food stuffs we shop often small and close to home, and for clothing we mostly nix the mall and rely on thoughtful, one to one trunk show shopping. We like to hear ourselves think, and take time with our closet and pantry additions. When making purchases I often tell myself and our clients, ‘even if it’s free, if it’s not absolutely right it’s just not worth it’.

Every day dress, we’re all about good stock. xo

most days, most nights

Like most women, not really sure where this eleventh month of 2017 has gone. Here at the every day we’ve done a big club runway show, a private trunk show or two, an exhilarating engagement, a quick in and out overnight fashion trip to NYC, an almost melt-down, Thanksgiving dinner and then some, a quarter century birthday and a gorgeous new puppy. No break soon everyone, Santa baby is coming. 🙂

Most days and most nights you’ll find us styling, and cooking. Two things we definitely think make days better: good clothes and great food.

Shown here are a few looks we’ve red-hot recently dressed our women in. Most pieces still available, as you all know most days and most nights we’re always striving for ways to make things look, taste, and feel better; all-around for those we love.

honestly, we all need this taffeta puffer

Every day dress; most days, most nights: sorry for blogging pause, we’ve been a little overwhelmed.

eternal lace crush

At about the age of five remember being entranced by the intricacies of lace, never mind the color or shape, simply loved the spaces within.

Now at fifty-two the crush continues. Wore a new piece to lunch today with a forever friend, and obviously paired it with denim as most mornings we’re on our knees pinning hems or hauling boxes or running to USPS to overnight fancy dresses.

This love affair will continue, come holiday dress-up time we’ll pull out the ankle skimming sexy satin skinny’s and black suede sandals to wear with this new wardrobe keeper.

Every day dress, eternal lace crush, and beyond. xoxo

velvet, trending?

Have had a love affair with velvet for as long as we can remember; velvet when little, velvet for high school holiday stuff, velvet for Christmas time with a young man who is now husband for thirty-plus years, velvet for my littles when they were little, and now velvet: again and forever, at fifty-something, and probably forever.

They say velvet is trending, hey, we wore that fabric at younger sister’s wedding in Tuscany a decade and a half ago.

Now, we love it on our feet, and on our body, and basically all around.

Met our second daughter for fancy cocktail event and she was wearing: black velvet off-shoulder top and black denim, of course.

With recent (and ongoing) closet edit we good-willed a bunch, and now covet a longer wrap jacket, and some easy wide-legged pants. Probably won’t wear them with the velvet Gucci boots, those can stand alone with last season and before closet add-ins. We’ll wear the new stuff with some down low Birkenstocks, or perhaps a fancy sneaker, and almost always with a good knit.

Which leads us to next favorite textile, cashmere. V-neck cashmere sweater, closet classic. When the stars are aligned we have a good-looking good-feeling cashmere v-neck in wardrobe rotation.

Every day dress and velvet is trending, forever. Pull out your velvet or add a little new, now’s the time. xoxo

base layer

Can’t control much, yet underneath it all we can choose what we wear for our base layer. Even when its denim and the husbands shirt, underneath it all it’s every day dress, and a good base layer, to help us keep our cool.

We absolutely love Lace & Day, and how they make the ordinary, extraordinary. Dressing is a thing, and starting with the good stuff sets the tone. Everyone needs a base layer, and we’re all about making nice.

Now, until Saturday, October 7th, enjoy savings of 15% by celebrating their Second Anniversary Celebration. Tuesday – Saturday 10am  – 6pm. Visit Laceandday.com for information about parking behind the store.

Every day dress, let’s all make our base layer a good one. xoxo

mindful luxury

Our world out there is not slowing down, and like most women we’ve been here, there, and everywhere, and packing up yet again in about 36 hours.

Yeah, of course we have a thing for luxury goods, yet also thinking much more about being mindful.

For all travels lately we’ve relied on carry on Louis Vuitton roller, beloved Celine tote, and small cross-body bag that gets tucked inside tote. Louis roller’s been around longer than a decade, and the tote and bag are here forever and all three will definitely get passed down to one of four daughters. White blouse and denim, wardrobe staples.

Of course there’s always a scarf in there too. When traveling whether it’s three weeks long-haul or three days by auto we limit ourselves to a carry-on and a tote, that’s it. So much easier when dealing with less.

Every day dress, now working more towards mindful luxury.

good vibes :)

No more moody blues, we’ve got good vibes going on. 🙂

Celebrating 30 years of marriage tomorrow, and we’ve been living and loving life, in the kitchen and beyond. Sometimes you need to feel and maybe write about the lows to really feel the highs.

Finally got that udon noodle, actually had to get down and honestly knead that thing with my feet. Footnote, haha: 98% through with professional chef certification and udon noodles had me all tied up. Tried that thing so many times and finally thank you google did it like they said; put the dough ball in a plastic bag, threw it on the floor, and between a kitchen towel or two massaged it out with two feet.

Every day dress, good vibes. 🙂

heading towards fall 17

Personal goal for summer 17 was not to work corporate, accomplished. We cooked, we traveled, we loved, all very casual, and now the slow slide into returning style begins.

As we need to start somewhere, here we are: velvet, for fall 17, is a day trend. So, we wore our navy velvet dress from last year to the market, in August. Paired it with suede Birkenstocks, and everything else was easy.

Our current mantra is to buy and use to the end the best we can, whether it be fresh berries, homegrown basil, a velvet dress, or suede sandals.

Fifth child is settling into first year of college, we’re bittersweet heading towards fall 17. xoxo

Every day dress.

checked out for a little

We’ve checked out for a little; travel, cooking, and now upon second daughter’s recommendation have added in the study of wine, oh, boy.

Two weeks in Portugal, at times ten of us in all, and now in Manhattan, give or take a week. My travel mantra is now less is always more, and easier, and went with a carry-on and tote.

Sure, I feel a little style-lost, yet tradeoff is greater.

And cooking? One late afternoon in Porto went street-walking and picked up four fresh chickens, had the butcher cut them into eights, and that trifecta of tomatoes, onion, and garlic. A bottle of olive oil, dried pasta, some butter is love, coarse salt, fresh ground pepper, and copious amounts of Portuguese wine. We feasted.

Later in the week moved into the Douro Valley, toured Niepoort, and was gifted with a garden box of more garden fresh tomatoes, and green peppers, and oranges. Upon our late return to the apartment, all hungry and tired, those vegetables along with some white wine, garlic, onions, and butter, all pan sautéed separately and then combined into one gorgeous pot, divine for late night dinner. More wine, of course.

No photos, we’ve checked out for a little, text will suffice.

Wishing everyone good health and great meals, shared with those you love. xoxo
