Making a Single-Stem Floral Arrangement

Dinner at Booie’s, with flowers from home
The night before…
These beautiful roses are from Maureen’s Buffalo Wholesale Flower Market

Learning a new party trick is fun. Recently, I’ve been making these dome-shaped single-stem floral arrangements for events, dinners, and small birthday gifts. I watched Maurice Harris on MasterClass for inspiration and haven’t looked back. You can make these easy arrangements with a bunch of roses from the market or the florist, floral tape, and round vases from Amazon.

At the market I bought a $22 bunch of roses and a birthday card in the same pink tone.
Here you see the glass vase and the floral tape I purchased on Amazon. I bought a bunch of vases so i have a good stokc of them on hand. I put a very small splash of bleach in the water to help keep it clear.
You need to strip the stems.
Here I’m cutting them all about the same length. It’s not perfect, yet it’s an honest effort.

Here is the final look. This is the small arrangement I made as a birthday gift for a friend. Oh, em gee, I now see that I spelled her name wrong; it is Jacquelyn; I am sorry. You learn as you go along, and you learn from your mistakes. In a conversation the other night, my son Ethan mentioned that he sometimes has to stop and think of the proper spelling for his daughter Jacqueline, maybe my brain was frozen with the ‘line’, instead of the ‘lyn’.

I’ve always loved creating a mood around the food I make and serve; flowers are a time-honored way to do so. It’s fun to make arrangements yourself, and you always learn something new as you go along. MasterClass has been fun, too.
