summer all over

Never really sure where we’re going to be, city, country, home, office; simply trying to keep it all going with summer happening all over. Endless kids, friends, dogs…

Cooking and feeding, and zipping up long dresses to get out the door and to the next place we’re going.

Colleague is on the road too, she’s working remotely from car and field.

It’s a little frenetic, yet we can style you for your busy days too.

peas in salad

During the months of July and August we do as much as we can to avoid any unnecessary trips to the grocery. We absolutely avoid the mall.

Saturday afternoon farmers market haul yielded a bunch of lettuce and vegetables, local homemade sausage, local dried pasta and jarred sauce (tomatoes aren’t ripe yet).

Saturday night dinner was said sausage slowly pan-cooked, and the freshest most delicious salad, could eat that again right about now.

The peas took time to shuck, good things always do, and tossed on the salad with thinly sliced radishes, divine. No cookbook, no recipe card, simply bought and served what was there at the time.

We’re back in the office, the one out in the country, prepping all things fall, and enjoying good food.

Every day dress, peas in salad, so fresh no need to even steam.

Holiday weekend was a mix-up of white denim, blue cashmere, blue hydrangea, blueberry pie, and real white whipped cream. Oh, and simple barbecue served on blue and white dinnerware, with a blue tin charger.

Half the day with a little clean-up detail, and half the day in the office prepping fall 16: we’re going to Saratoga Springs NY in August, woot woot, with this beyond blue leather dress:

work mode | mom mode

Second day of summer 16 and like women all over we’re juggling multiple gigs.

Checked into the Waldorf NYC last week Tuesday early morning and barely left the hotel until late Thursday afternoon. For day-long meetings wore a dress each and every time. Nothing easier than a dress when you’re always in a rush. Ordered lunch in, room service for one in a city of culinary opportunity. Needed some down time.

Flew back to BUF with oldest NYC daughter on Thursday and helped her prep a summer country weekend for her city friends, about 40 of them. We did the usual, mac and cheese, chicken and burgers, salad, roasted potatoes and asparagus on the grill, (no more room in the oven), and cookies.

Love the work mode and the mom mode, just keep going. Good clothes help, for sure. 🙂

protein at breakfast

Two youngest daughters are in exam week, and partner/colleague and I have been in lock down in suite #101, she’s all about fall 16 and I’ve been pretty much right by her side, cheering her on.

Always encourage my crew protein at breakfast. Can’t think of a better way to start the day, though coffee first thing is always non-negotiable. Actually, protein throughout the day is really our game plan: white fish on the grill with seasonal vegetables, total score.

Any free time of late is spent in the garden. Doesn’t matter; weeding, planting, watering, whatever it is it’s time out of mind, bliss. Honestly, weeding and pruning might be all time favorites.

After all the work in the dirt nothing like a hot shower, blue jeans and a tank, sneakers and a floral blazer, all tied together with still wet hair and a make-up free face.

Protein at breakfast will carry you through. xoxo

for the weekend

We were in dresses and heels all week, new boss was in town from Westport CT and it was all systems go. So ready for the weekend.

Last weekend it was out at the country place enjoying the last of the lilacs. Red white and blue kind of the theme, even dressed all the beds in new red and blue quilts. Gardening, cooking, and dog walking the main activities.

Headed out there again tomorrow and definitely packing the good lingerie, and why not. Even in blue jeans it’s good to have the good stuff underneath. Always start with a great foundation. 🙂

Picked these new lovelies up late this afternoon at Lace & Day. Tomorrow, Saturday June 4th, they open at 8:30 am for coffee and treats and a special shopping day with 15% of purchases to benefit WNY Women’s Foundation. With owners Emily, Holly and staff you are in very good hands for all of your personal foundation needs. And for BUF, it’s local, intimate, and fun.

bring it together

Whatever the day, days end is always better together. Really can’t count how many meals we’ve put out, and doesn’t even matter.

This weeknight we did peppers and onions, chicken and steak. Added lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, cheese, whole wheat tortillas, some hot sauce and of course sour cream.

We were missing a few, and cilantro and lime.

Made the most of what we had, people, food; always bring it together.

Happy Monday everyone. Getting back in the groove here, long weekend in Boston MA celebrating young adult friend’s law school graduation, woot woot Alexander.

special sundays

Yesterday we did what we usually do: gathered together and broke bread, oh, those special Sunday’s. Three generations, let’s all celebrate.

Started the day with blueberry pancakes and slow cooked scramble, no photos, we were barely dressed. Husband and I went off to the country for a day in the garden, intense weeding and moderate tractor work.

Second daughter took over the dinner kitchen magnificently, so proud. Love that what you do day after day so often comes back, thank you Booie.

Steaks on the grill, green beans, caesar and mashed, total thumbs up. Coconut cake by Monnie, gelato, of course, and a little chocolate extravaganza, special Sunday’s, we’re all about that. You know who we’re missing…

skip the sauce

At the end of the day, when you’ve put forth a pretty good effort, thinking it’s okay to sometimes skip the sauce. 🙂

Maybe not the nightly glass of wine (or two), but definitely sometimes the grill (when it’s still pretty chill outside), and the homemade BBQ sauce, we used store-bought bottled and threw those breasts in the oven on this weeknight. Baked sweet potato super easy add-on.

Must confess, after a day in the field black tank, denim, no make-up, hair back and time in the kitchen does the trick.

Anything and everything green, bonus points.

Almost Friday!

variation of a theme

Clients tell me they gravitate towards the same look, again and again. We say, love, wear, repeat. When you find what works, do it over and make it better.

For trunk today wore a variation of yesterday’s theme and the day’s before: this time a new kind of funky white pant, black bodysuit, again, and black jacket. Block heel white shoe boots provided a little leg lengthening, always welcome, and the camel bag added a third color, you know, third time’s the charm.

As we love work, food, family, and good clothes (and not in any particular order), dinner tonight was more of the same; a roasted vegetable, fresh greens, and lean protein on the grill. Yes, dill relish and ketchup add texture and depth.
