living in it

IMG_0577IMG_0578IMG_0584
Another non-stop Monday: today was one of those days that you kind of want to pull the covers over your head while wondering how you’re gonna make it through. Two daughters marked tardy. Monday Monday.

Happy to have this black sweater and black tropical weight wool trouser. Both have been in the machine on cold plenty of times, and both have been photographed and blogged about before. When there’s something out there that works and works well, we’re all about sharing here at every day dress.

These two pieces saved the day. Dressed and out the door. Three visits to the United States Passport Office, client phone calls, client black jacket wardrobe drop-off, desk work and middle school lacrosse game.

Every day dress, living in it. A little leopard print flat and camel bag makes it even easier. Thinking we’re all living in it.

creme brulee for fourteen

Click here EveryDayDress for first video post, scary, we’re working out the kinks.

Here are the special characters for the post title: Créme Brûlée for Fourteen. Couldn’t quite get it for the headline, oh, well.

Last week Saturday cooked dinner for house proper and three kids home from Boston MA and houseguest from Chicago IL. It’s always a party, the theory here is if you can read, you can cook. Continually step out of your comfort zone, everyone needs to eat, and most are appreciative of your efforts. This video shows dessert. Leg of lamb, perfect, standing rib roast, overdone.

champagne and potato chips

Several years after sixth child was born discovered the take away feeling of a good bag of chips. Never really knew what the big deal was before then, must have been all the responsibility that made me want to tuck in. Paired with a glass of champagne, mouth heaven.

Loved that the Pebble Beach Food & Wine festival confirmed and affirmed the love. Had the pleasure of being my sister’s guest, she does all kinds of big party event work on the west coast, and last week Sunday we tasted six different glasses of Grand Cru with potato chips, truffle popcorn, two grades of dark chocolate, two different cheeses, olives, pesto, and freshly sliced bread. Kind of a nice way to greet a Sunday morning in CA at 10 am.  Forget the Wheaties, breakfast of champions for sure.

Also memorable, the Burgundy Tasting and Patrón. Miles apart yet equally significant? The Wines of Burgundy had men in suits, Patrón had young women with big smiles.

As I was back here on the east coast this last Sunday, Easter, had to totally do the redo. Champagne and potato chips were the definite go to side-kicks while cooking ham and eggs for eight.

Every day dress loves a glass of champagne and some chips, who doesn’t? Thank you, Tracy, loved being with you for three nights and four days.

crew for you

Athletic inspired clothing, happening trend. Key word, inspired. We might say it’s a good idea to keep the stuff you wear to the gym for the gym?

Shown here a look styled for a young client that might otherwise consider tight and bare at times. Stylish, proper, easy, covered.

Every day dress wearing Worth New York Spring Summer 2014 Monday morning for the beginning of a new work week. Loving the green and the ease of a short athletic inspired jacket. Sorry there’s no smile, Monday morning after a lovely long weekend and so much to do! 🙂

simple it is

IMG_0467IMG_0466IMG_0486IMG_0485IMG_0490

For a blended table on Good Friday, really missing the oldest and youngest, one in DC the other in Ft. Lauderdale, kept the table all white and the food wholesome and unpretentious.

Simple it is, easy white tulips, lobster mac and cheese, mustard vinaigrette dressed spinach, arugula and radicchio, and blueberry pie. For a touch of whimsy tried to do Playboy Bunny ears on the pastry top, intent was good, result not so much. 🙂

Sure, there are times to pull out all the stops. Over the years have learned, like wearing good clothes, when it’s simple and relaxed, everyone is at ease. Friday night dinner at home, 8 o’clock until 11:30 pm, for me that’s success.

white dinner jacket

Recent addition to the every day rotation: white dinner jacket. Can’t wait to wear it with a t-shirt and broken in blue jeans, favorite outfit ever.

seared sea scallops

IMG_0377IMG_0378IMG_0381Perhaps you’re looking for something quick, healthy, and delicious to serve friends and family the next day or two? Consider seared sea scallops, so easy, and the season’s first zucchini, so uniformly small, and round it out with some black rice simmered in organic vegetable broth. Kept it clean and garnish free and simply used kosher salt, clarified butter, a little grape seed and a little olive oil.

Served this last night with a little cab franc, maybe not the perfect food wine pairing but it was downright gorgeous, and everyone was happy.

Bonus: pansies on the outside table, finally!

Every day dress with best wishes to all for a special spring weekend.

more pattern play

IMG_0129IMG_0157IMG_0160Sometimes you just have to go with it, and wear stuff  you might not normally wear. After a day at the beach could choose between a wet suit or 24-year-old daughter’s clothes, and went with the latter.

Random white tank, JCrew belt, Parker pants. Photos taken two weekends ago in Naples FL.

These are not the every day, we’re back in the home office. Husband tells me Buffalo NY was one of the coldest spots in all the country, today, April 16th. In real life wore the ski parka for the high school lacrosse game.

More pattern play, definitely needed.
