modern days

IMG_0925  IMG_0915  IMG_0920 (1)

For day-tripping around historic and sacred St Andrews, left the blue jeans back at the hotel and instead paired lace and fringe. Wore the same black cashmere v-neck, the light yet warm jacket, and a nice neat black bag. Carried a wool wrap and cashmere hat in the bag, and had an umbrella in the car. Outfit felt right, and those darn boots have logged 8.9 miles or 15,000 steps daily. When we get home they are going straight to the cobbler for some tender loving care.

Not quite right is using a cell in a cemetery, these are modern days and I guess that cell should have been left in the car as well.

As for the lace cutout pants, normally you would think of those with a heel and for dress, it’s fun to pair them with something unexpected like last season’s beloved Valentino fringed boots. Hand hemmed these myself and cut about two inches off the bottom, with a nice shoe they show just a little ankle, and with the low heeled boots like showing a little rolled Wolford sock. Also, always love to wear navy and black together, mixing dark neutrals can add some depth to your outfit. Even the husband got into the navy and black, wearing a navy v-neck, black pants, and lighter blue jacket.

As for posting, it’s been slow yet I love to share and keep an online photo diary. We’ve been moving fast and hope that you and yours are all enjoying your version of modern days too. xoxo

denim and black

Good thing two of our favorite things are denim and black. Pretty chill here in Edinburgh, Scotland. Even the room matches the wardrobe. The tub in the bedroom, nice touch.

You absolutely need good shoes or boots for walking (and socks), an umbrella, a cashmere sweater, and a light-weight yet warm jacket.

Favorite denim cut for now is Citizens of Humanity Emerson, a relaxed kind of boyfriend fit. Have basically been living in these: wore them on the over-night plane last Thursday, and practically every day since, now Thursday again. You really don’t need all that much, and when your clothes kind of all go together it’s so much easier to get away light. Three more nights in Scotland, then back to London, and then Paris.

Every day dress, denim and black in Edinburgh.

ps. Packed so light forgot the hairbrush, yesterday had to stop and pick one up quick.

london calling

Anyone who’s ever traveled with the husband knows that there is absolutely no down time whatsoever, you are on-call twenty-four seven, and you walk walk walk.

We hit London last week Friday and landed in Edinburgh yesterday.

Definitely buy flowers for your hotel room, and definitely wear a scarf.

work and pack

Blogging’s been brief, every day life, enveloping.

Not sure why but when leaving town for any length of time it seems that every surface in the house needs to be wiped clean. The inside of drawers, the refrigerator, even the oven. Crazy stuff.

So we’ve been working and packing: for small work event last night, had some drop-off catering as we’ve been in the clean mode and not so much the cook mode. With any free time we’ve been piling things in the bedroom corner to pack for a sixteen day trip abroad.

We’re all about the carry on, always. This time though we’re taking two. Two bags that can be handled solo, no help required. Adamant about when traveling we should all be able to handle our own stuff. Trains don’t wait.

More basics, to keep things simple use a single fresh flower specimen in a clear glass vase, nothing else. And, when nothing else is blooming in the garden cut a bunch of mint and stick it in an on the rocks glass. Simple cool.

white blouse, navy skirt

IMG_0742

Have never ever felt this pulled and stretched. Getting out of here next week Thursday for Edinburgh, London, Paris. Two youngest daughters playing lacrosse in Scotland for about nine days, wow, just like when I was a kid, not really.

IMG_0747

For dinner out Thursday with the three men in my life, went back to the grade school kind of look and wore a white blouse and navy skirt. Both in an amazing kind of shock wash cotton, and layered a Wolford body suit on underneath. Oh, Donna, will miss you, you were absolutely my first major fashion crush.

Yeah, there’s a bit of midsection stuff going on, we don’t Photoshop here, it’s all real, and every day dress.

Gotta keep the faith.

Really need to spend some more time in the office, if I don’t get myself in that desk chair I might just find myself cooking during the weekdays. 🙂

Every day dress, summer days and nights, love wearing great clothes and throwing dinner parties.

in a hurry

IMG_0532

IMG_0533

Like women everywhere, we’ve kind of been in a hurry. Great fantastic moving pieces all over.

When times are fast, simple outfits are often best.

After a day on the road yesterday came home and slipped into fresh white jeans, white v-neck tee, and best ever black blazer. Neutral suede lace-ups, that red lip, and no time for hair. Prepped some dinner, two roast chickens in the oven with lemon, thyme, garlic, carrots, onions, and red potatoes, and had to be out the door yet again.

Finished the look with my new lariat, picked up in Rochester NY yesterday at the home showroom of beautiful Monica. She’s an image consultant, and now co-founder and CEO of Dripping in Gems, exquisite statement jewelry made in Miami for the modern woman. Check her site at www.drippingingems.com.

She’s got it going on for sure, a flexible work from home entrepreneurial business. We get each other. She’s growing her jewelry business and I’m growing our fashion business.

Love clothes and think you too might want to work from home with the support of a national luxury women’s fashion brand? Reach out to me at www.worthnewyork.com/rebecca-collins. We’re kind of in a hurry, talking with women now for Fall Twenty Fifteen.

For work and runaround yesterday, wore a great little shirtdress.

No time for makeup, only that great new red lipstick, fifth child had to be somewhere and we had driving lessons to boot.

Love the ease of this kind of dress.

IMG_0486

Paired it with a nice pop of color for the shoes, and my classic Saint Laurent satchel. Black, white, done.

For work we’re off to Rochester NY today, always team building and looking forward to a great Fall Twenty Fifteen season.

July is typically the height of summertime so to keep the good times going we’re all about work at day and play at night. So, still doing the red white blue thing and always doing dinner.
