peace, and faith

The last fourteen days or so in our community has brought conclusion and commencement. We’ve lost Natalie and Ben, heartbreaking and unfathomable. We’ve celebrated; the college graduation of a young woman, unexpectedly without her dad, a bridal shower, and law school graduation, times two. Countless other conclusions and commencements as well.

Every day dress wishes everyone on this earth peace, calm, strength, and most of all, faith.

a bit of a stretch

Really didn’t do that much shopping on most recent trip.

Stopped in a little boutique in Beaune after having breakfast because we missed the hotel breakfast, 7 am to 10 am, again, haha, and this little store was the only place open. Shopkeeper, glorious French man, served us espresso. Bought a jacket in kind of a citrus yellow, evoked feelings of Dijon, of course, a pair of blue jeans, and the outfit seen here.

Husband wasn’t all about it but bought it anyways. For him it was a bit of a stretch, I was feeling the down-time look happening. Wore this Sunday, Mother’s Day, out in the country, after weeding the garden and walking the dogs. We should all take a bit of a stretch.

Every day dress in a bit of a stretch. French label, not even sure what, but LOVE.

feeling très chic

One week ago Monday picked this pistache bag as the takeaway while shopping in Paris. We had three hours tops, dinner reservations that night and early flight out the next morning. Husband asked where I wanted to go with our limited time, as we were in France some of the obvious suggestions were Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, or Céline. Never made it to Hermès or Céline, we spent most of the afternoon walking walking walking.

Feeling très chic as perusing Sunday’s New York Times Styles Section saw the breath-taking beautiful Michelle Williams in a two page ad and this very bag, what they call the iconic Alma. Can’t get over her incredible cut and mouth. The Travel magazine featured it as well, in bright mimosa

Knew it was the one when I first laid eyes on it. Clothes and bags and shoes convey a feeling, this is the bag I wanted to remember this trip by: classic, unexpected, spontaneous.

Every day dress feeling (a little) très chic. After a Tuesday work day on the road and late lacrosse game stopped and picked up a bottle of chilled white burgundy. With the bag on the kitchen counter top and a nice glass of wine to go with me while cooking chicken for dinner, that French feeling continues…

Maybe you are headed to France. If so, make time for The Cook’s Atelier in Beaune. With heartfelt thanks for organizing to new travel friend Lisa, three of us took part in the Market Tour and Cooking Class, held every Wednesday and Saturday, last weekend.

Memorable? Absolutely. We were brought in and taken care of. Mother daughter team, Marjorie and Kendall. LOVE that. What I love even more is that the market tour, wine tasting, baking, plucking feathers off the bird, the husband, breastfeeding, the older son and the nanny all come together to create a day of what life is really made of: the breaking of bread among family and friends. None of this takes away from the professionalism, only adds to the wonderful mix. Cooking lesson for a few hours, and then a leisurely lunch.

Find more about them here at The Cook’s Atelier. Beautiful website, beautiful story, beautiful day. Thank you all.

Last week Saturday visited market day in Beaune France. Tour was followed by a hands-on cooking class and five-course lunch. More on that to follow, off to all day lacrosse tournament this Saturday. 🙂

Totally confirmed how important cooking is in every day life.

Have a great day everyone, and Happy Mother’s Day weekend. xoxo

Dear Worth New York:

About fourteen years ago bought my first outfit from your designs. Pregnant with the sixth child chose an emerald-green straight skirt, turtleneck sweater, and cashmere and wool wrap, occasion was the christening of said child. Since then your clothes have become an essential part of the every day dress.

Have always loved beautiful fabric and design. Taught myself to sew in the sixth grade and would stitch up new skirts for the first day of back to school.  Even made jean styled pants and perfected the top-stitch. Prom dresses, the wedding gown, five bridal attendants, and two flower girl dresses all came from the heart and the trusty Bernina. Bound button holes, Florence Eiseman styled appliqués and Halloween costumes for four, no problem.

Growing a family and creating a household brought monthly issues of Town & Country magazine. There I caught your full-page ads: beautiful classic women wearing beautiful classic clothing. Decided then that I wanted some of that.

Now I wear your clothing regularly, and dress my clients in your designs for their every day and important life events, and find and train other women to share the love.

Your designs make us feel good, make it easier to get dressed well, and give the value I sought when sewing. Thank you.

Have just returned from France and with half a dozen European trips now logged have come to discover that the first thing I put on after the day or night or both of having spent hours and hours in travel clothes is a dress. A dress feels fresh, and pretty.

Wanted to let you know that the dress I wore for the first day and night, exactly one week ago, in Burgundy, was from your Winter 2013 Collection. Ordered that months ago and wore it for Christmas Eve in Sonoma CA. The floral pattern and matching floral cardigan was considered a stretch by some yet I fell hard. That was December and now it is May, the dress keeps going.

While shopping in Paris just four days ago saw a long floral chiffon skirt and yet again, a matching floral cardigan in the window of a boutique on the rue de Cambon. Worth New York, thank you, your dedication to your craft and your good eye gives us the style and fashions of Paris with the ability to dress ourselves and others in the comfort of our homes, not sure what out there is better than that. For me, the luxury of the product line equals the luxury of having a flexible work life, and being able to share beautiful clothes with beautiful women all over is the best of the best.

Thank you sincerely,

Rebecca at every day dress

nonstop france

DSC07234DSC07264

Under the pretense of biking through Burgundy, husband asked me to join him very last-minute for a five-day trip to France. Of course the answer was yes, have loved the man since the age of nineteen. He’s on the verge of sixty, youngest daughter tells me that all men at times act like they are four. What I know is that his energy knows no bounds.

It was pretty much nonstop. Off the grid for seven days; two for travel, five for touring. Not once were we on bicycles. Unbelievably beautiful. There is good in the world.

Nonstop France.
