back to work

[easyrotator]erc_37_1367887230[/easyrotator]

After a day spent fully in the dirt over the weekend felt good to get back to work on a Monday. Love weeding, the process provides mind clearing exercise and esthetically pleasing results. Upstate New York waits for these kinds of days, getting back to work in the garden is a very good thing.

For back to work look city-side chose a close-fitting ruched sleeveless tee, black tropical weight push up sleeves blazer, and charcoal cropped pant. A work outfit indeed. Took me through the entire day of run around, client appointments, more run around, and dinner prep and clean-up. Never needed to stop once to consider what I was wearing. The clothes were working for the woman, the woman was not working to make the clothes work, a very good thing.

For back to work clothes like these check out current Spring Summer 2013 Trunk Show. Now through May 9th. Call or text 716-445-3033 for more information.

Wishing all women back to work success wherever they may be, the garden, the run around, or the board room.

Every day dress back to work. xoxo

scarf as halter, again

[easyrotator]erc_28_1367638987[/easyrotator]

Yes, posted this last summer but like the wardrobe it’s good to update and refresh. So, here you go, how to wear a square scarf as halter, again.

For the best look your pants should sit a little higher on the waist than your low-rise jeans. Shown here are JBrand skinnies in mid-rise. A scarf ring or any ring is used to at the neck to create the two neck ties. This one, from Hermes.

Start by folding your scarf in half cross wise. Place the folded edge along the waistline of your pants and thread two points through the ring, bring up around your neck, and tie in a small square knot. Take the other two points and wrap around your waistline and secure with another square knot, in back. Viola, scarf as halter, again.

Shown also is the handsome husband with one of our remaining hens and gorgeous fresh eggs.

Photos shown were taken last night Thursday after a quick run to the country house. Perfect night for blue jeans and ice cream.

Happy weekend everyone, took forever to upload, need a better way.

Every day dress does scarf as halter, again, country-side.

two piece knit

[easyrotator]erc_85_1367550412[/easyrotator]

Investing in quality clothing provides two great feelings; the excitement and thrill of wearing something new and then the comfort and familiarity of putting on the same pieces again, knowing that they work and look great.

When working from home and especially in a creative field like fashion, it’s a little easier to pull off what was once cocktail wear as day/work wear. Bought this two piece knit three years ago. Made its debut for the office holiday party circuit and now you see it many seasons later, as day/work wear during the month of May.

The monochromatic black, the sleek shape of knit, and the simple cut of the two pieces give freedom in shoe choice. Reached for the rock stud again, so loving the low heel, can literally run up and down multiple flights of stairs all day long.

Every day dress does the two piece knit look on a normal work day. See what you have from a few seasons back that can be worn again. Enjoy and wear your clothes, even the earlier party circuit stuff, the two piece knit.

dress

[easyrotator]erc_7_1367459573[/easyrotator]

Dress. As in the noun and verb. When your day is nonstop and you need to look put together, nothing beats a dress when getting dressed.

Currently reading Daniel H. Pink’s To Sell is Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others on the iPad. Not a formal book review here but he says we all sell, how about that? Also talks about the one-word pitch: The ultimate pitch for an era of short attention spans begins with a single word-and doesn’t go any further.

After much thought and not sure why it took so long, here’s the one-word pitch for this little blog: dress. Thinking of the verb form, put on one’s clothes, make an effort, bring intent, show up. Thinking of the noun, too. A one-piece garment can often make the day.

Dress shown was worn two years ago exactly to interview in NYC. Back then wore it with a more conservative shoe. Got the job. Today, kind of like pairing it with the rock stud and showing a little edge. Two year contract up for renewal this June, better go pitch the one-word. Dress. 🙂

Every day dress.

china blue

[easyrotator]erc_22_1367326811[/easyrotator]

Absolutely crazy for this china blue color. Thinking this would be a great combination to wear perhaps to Nantucket or the Vineyard this summer?

Full disclosure: last two blog posts have created interest in the wardrobe pieces from every day dress. Specifically the stretch linen white pants and the orange crush cotton anorak. Both pieces from last season and completely sold out. Outfit pictured here? These are current pieces borrowed for fifteen minutes from the sample set I have here until May 9. Literally styled this look this morning at 7 am and had daughter snap photos before the school drop-off.

Here is the ask: if you would like to see these pieces up close and personal, come see me before May 9. Many more pieces in this great stretch linen and china blue.

If you are interested in Trunk Shows in your area, email me here as well. Love to share the good stuff.

Bag, sneakers, and jewelry from the permanent collection of every day dress.

Here is the ask again: come see me, Trunk Show through May 9.

These clothes are way too beautiful to keep under wraps, they are meant to be worn by women like you.

thoughts on fitness

[easyrotator]erc_74_1367150292[/easyrotator]

Here, at every day dress, muscle, curves, and a handful or two of healthy flesh coexists happily with a fashionable lifestyle.

Yes, fashion hangs most certainly better on super thin women. Love the look of Gwyneth, Kate, and Carine. Having been given the genetic makeup for muscle growth and muscle memory and not legs up to the underarms, went the fitness route instead. Much more sustainable than trying to seek what never could be, and believe me gave that way too many tries.

Plus, we like to be able to move furniture, carry in bags of groceries, haul a case or two of wine, pick a child up in our arms and provide warmth and comfort. Nothing better than to have the strength to get through whatever the day brings with grace and ease.

Thoughts on fitness? Find something you enjoy and like the sneaker company says, just do it. Ballet, yoga, running, gardening, weight training, walking, whatever, for the head and body let’s all move, and daily.

Every day dress loves women of all sizes and encourages some pursuit of fitness for the head and body, every day.

Recent thought on what to wear to the gym? At this age, heading towards fifty, feeling more confident when tossing on something over the body conscious work out apparel that can cover the butt. Shown here is a light weight cotton anorak in a bright pop of color that makes stopping at the grocery afterwards okay.

Have a great Sunday.

bandeau instead of tank

[easyrotator]erc_50_1366764573[/easyrotator]

Office meeting to cocktails? If you spend any time at the gym consider a bandeau instead of tank. Nine to five you can have a proper covered up office look, after hours slip off the jacket and show a little skin.

This look is inspired in part by favorite fashion icon, the beautiful late Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. She wore simple shapes, straight hair, and had a thing for white pants and black tops. So classic.

Pinterest, big fashion advertising, and all the magazines are showing the jacket over the shoulders and the satchel in the crook of the arm . Try it with your basics, it’s fun to feel in the know.

Trunk Show happening soon. Email me, would love to work with you on some good, fun, classic looks. Let’s try a bandeau instead of tank under that jacket.

ps. the white linen pants? they have stretch and are machine washable. genius. come see me. rebecca@everydaydress.com.

garden party

[easyrotator]erc_42_1366654321[/easyrotator]

Inspired by the floral fabrics in upcoming Spring Summer Trunk Show, it’s been a blue pansy planting garden party at both the country and city place the past two days.

Spring is here, finally, and that means pansies in upstate. Summer is not too far behind, yippee, and that means a garden party or two for us all.

Every day dress is prepping for the Spring Summer Trunk Show this Friday April 26 – Thursday May 9 and ready to help you put together a few looks for your upcoming garden party or any other occasion, work or play.

Helping women find beautiful clothing they look and feel great in is what we do at these Trunk Shows. Blue and gray pansies are planted to welcome you. Every day dress.

Happy Earth Day.

half in

[easyrotator]erc_1_1366548932[/easyrotator]

One small way to look current this season is to wear your blouse kind of half in. Tuck the front half into your skinny jeans or skinny trouser and leave the back half kind of billowing out behind you. The extra volume created by leaving the back half out works well with the narrowness of a skinny pant. It’s all a play on proportion.

One big way to be half in is to pick up a pair of Valentino ‘Rockstud’ Pumps. Go half in by doing the flat or in this case, the 2 1/1″ inch heel, a newer version of the original sky-high one. The real fashion crowd has worn the ‘Rockstud’ for three years now, feeling this is going to be a wardrobe classic so finally went there. This here is every day dress so being a little late to the trend game is okay and good.

Liking the look of the pale pink silk blouse? You can see that here and in three more colors at upcoming Spring Summer Trunk Show, by appointment. Liking the look of the skinny Quinn pant? That too will be here in Spring and Summer weight fabrics. As for the Valentino shoe, can definitely help you find that on the internet, come try mine on first, you know I love sharing the shoe wardrobe.

there’s always light

[easyrotator]erc_58_1366404265[/easyrotator]

That home improvement roll? Husband brought home two new fixtures for the kitchen this afternoon, totally unexpected. Called the electrician and he came right over. There’s always light.

As this is fashion and lifestyle and that stuff is fun, thought we should move into the weekend with a good-looking before and after.

Loving this modern mood he’s having.

Fashion posts coming soon. Getting ready for Summer Trunk Show happening next week Friday through May 9th. There’s always light.

Wishing you the very best weekend possible.
