Normally we’re checked out in July and/or August, this year it’s June. Big at-home shindig late summer, so oldest daughter/bride to be headed to Wyoming, and I did Food & Wine Classic in Aspen CO, thank you Jackie, than met husband for more wine in CA.
When home Wednesday it will be head down, all systems go. 200+ for dinner and dancIng in the back yard is a big lift, so, for the time being we’ve gone fishing.
No newbies here to mailing good stuff, we send gorgeous clothes out sometimes twice a week and odd sized cards as often as we can.
First time through the wedding ring, loads of learning opportunities, especially with respect to:
THE INVITATION
design invites early, and order greater quantity than you’ll ever think you need, especially envelopes.
know that the welcome reception, if any, and the rehearsal (and dinner), are moving parts, and if an insert is designed for that order extra too, yikes.
sometimes it’s best to offload this chunk of work to non-hyper-talented family and friends, it can get tricky. then, when something goes wrong, or just not right, which usually happens, it’s not on all of us, it’s on them. wicked run-on sentence there, lots of emotion, can you tell?
definitely, and always, take all pieces of the invitation suite to favorite USPS station and have everything, WEIGHED, and then purchase appropriate and beautiful required postage.
set aside a full weekend to address all invites, and then somehow pull in three full extra days, no kidding.
seal the suckers, with help from husband’s office, and drive to post office (with other parcels of course, gorgeous clothes), and ask to have them all hand-cancelled, triumphantly.
Stand on line and visit same favorite clerk that weighed the invite suite initially thinking you are great to go and than look at her without any wonder when she weighs them, upon arrival, and than measures them, yikes!!!, and tells you that they all require an additional 21 cents. Remember, look on your face can express no wonder at all.
understand that the additional 21cent stamp is not the right vibe for this envelope and that you need the Oscar stamp, because that’s how it is when you kind of love style.
Local post office has no Oscar, so drive to second post office and they have no Oscar either.
Finally, go to master post office, get the Oscar, put those things on, and send them off.
we like three stamps versus two stamps better anyways
SWISH! Invites out, woot woot! Caroline and Sean no turning back now.
white denim, white tank, husbands sweater, lots of construction going on
basic little black cardigan what’s for dinner post
Days move so fast sometimes you’ve just got to put it together: the clothes on your body and the food to eat for dinner.
Essentials to keep on hand might include black denim and a cropped cardigan, a pound of bacon, frozen peas, a fresh bunch of kale, imported dried pasta, a good black bag, and maybe some Boursin cheese and a handful of asparagus.
looks weird yet wildly delicious, everyone loved this ad hoc what’s for dinner put it together
We love a good outfit and adore a good meal, keeping at the ready some strong basics makes it easier to put it together.
Never mind book club, we’ve joined a farm share for the season and couldn’t be happier. Picked up our box last week Thursday, and have cooked and baked from it since.
We’re all about eating fresh, and working on adding in more plant-based items to the daily rotation. Work it is, as I find plant-based a bit challenging, and honestly kind of time-consuming. Maybe it’s just getting in the swing of it, not sure, simply seems to take forever to chop so many ingredients to arrive at great flavor. I have to say though that once the prep is done, the results and the taste and the variety of meals you can create is worth the effort, so go figure. Daughters in the house love when I cook this way, they are all over the Cucumber Rounds w/Cashew Cheese Tapenade.
soaking heirloom tomatoes for consomme and cashews for ‘cream cheese’
recently bought 3 bistro tables from Amazon for entertaining activities
Friday night committee meeting
we like odd numbers
tomato consomme shooters with avocado garnish
roasted pepper pesto crostini with fresh horseradish garnish
cucumber rounds with cashew cheese tapenade and garnished with balsamic figs
prepping Beefless Southeast-Asain satays
serving Beefless Southeast-Asian Satays with Peanut Sauce
(don’t think I’ll ever do this one again, would rather use grass-fed, organic beef)
On Friday I was in kitchen heaven as entire family was out and about. Simply settled in with a counter full of plant ingredients and did what I could for a little patio and lawn committee party we had that evening to kick off WNY Women’s Foundation Fall in Fashion 18. Lovely evening, lovely women.
Sunday night halibut and asparagus
Monday morning halibut on toast with fresh squeezed OJ
As for creating, this morning we started with last night’s halibut garnished with olive and sun-dried tomato tapenade, protein at breakfast in our every day dress world is always a good idea.

A few disclaimers:
Started here as a ‘style’ site and feel like we’ve evolved more into maybe a ‘food’ site? Whatever, we’re passionate about both, even if involves most of our time spent in denim. We can still clean up nice when needed. 🙂
If you read my posts on Facebook, here is my apology: I am freaking terrible at Facebook, and one of my young admins linked my blog to Facebook seasons ago and I still haven’t figured it out, oh, well, always learning and figuring things out. Sorry if I’m not good at replying to comments.
living in denim, and sneakers, and a puffer, still in June
black cotton dress, Dior bag, guitar strap, waiting for Uber
Saturday office look, new shoes, and loving Diet Coke in a glass bottle
Joined a farm share, and had a plant party. xoxo, Rebecca
We’re up to our eyeballs in all kinds of projects: youngest daughter graduated high school last week Monday and oldest daughter getting married this August.
bought a bunch of pink roses and tulips at grocery
one of her favorite candies is Sour Patch Kids and we had those little plastic cups on hand, instant party favor
cut the flowers and in about 10 minutes had 5 small vases for restaurant dinner
For high school graduation dinner we dined out- not our usual, yet the groom was coming from out of town. He wanted to dine out with our caterer, and Giancarlo’s did a fantastic job. Post coming, as soon as photos are uploaded. When we dine out for special occasions I always like to bring flowers, candy, and votives, it simply sets the scene and personalizes things a bit. We have a love of all white flowers, this graduation Monday there wasn’t a white flower to be found- it was the Monday after the royal wedding and there wasn’t one single white flower at the market. So, we went with pink. And Sour Patch kids. And white votives.
scrappy iPhone photo, it was late, and getting dark, and we we’re getting hungry
style note: resurrected the Valentino rockstuds, and they felt right
She wore a white dress I made for her oldest sisters high school graduation years ago, and she looked great.
House and garden at reception site are in major overhaul mode, there’s nothing like having a party to get your butt in gear for things that have been idle on the wish/to-do list, thank you Caroline and Sean.
before I decorate I pencil out ideas after tracing cookie cutter
at the last minute switched to pink icing details instead of blue
groom is wearing Louboutins for wedding, so pink icing on his soles as a nod
edible gold glitter
I’ve been crazy baking too. Bride, groom, and bouquet cookies, blah blah blah.
another iPhone pic, husband stocking one of two ponds with fish
Getting ready to hit the road again with 4 daughters and second sons girlfriend for fun wedding activities, second of three bridal showers on deck. Here we come New Hampshire.
We’ve been up to all kinds of prep: spreadsheets, construction projects, and major weeding, all for the upcoming big day.
We’re also in the kitchen, baking things like three berry cobble, coconut cupcakes, and beef tenderloin with bernaise sauce. Scratch chicken stock is a weekly routine and keeps all things food related humming. Vegetable stock goes on too as we’re kind of leaning into more plant-based eating although these photos indicate otherwise, haha, we have no wagon here. 🙂
Every day dress, food and stuff. Have a great and safe weekend! Xoxo
Footnote: okay you guys trying to fit this posting stuff in and did this while having mani/pedi, overjoyed.
Of course we’ve been watching all things royal, adoring her sartorial choices, and couldn’t be happier for the beaming bride and groom. Love too that it’s a modern-day fairy tale, and reminds us that with love, and persistence, all heights are possible.
the everything shoe
Honestly I don’t even know what day it is, as our own little wedding story has been wonderfully encompassing: in just under twelve weeks we’re bringing together two large and joyous families for a union that simply feels right, and good.
Peanut on the bride cookies
Stephanie on flowers and balloons, 100+
setting the stage
Last weekend (or was it the one before that?), twenty of us came together at Bobo in NYC for showering Linnie. We laughed, and cried, and shouted out a little with Taylor Swift, all in a glorious Saturday afternoon of celebration.
the bride arrives
Every day dress, showering Linnie, and loving everyone and every moment. xoxo
a mom in love
Linnie and her twin brother
sent as many guests as we could home with flowers, love you Taylor
I’ve been MIA as doing it all is seemingly not possible, so blogging slipped, sorry. Gotta do what’s necessary, and getting through the days is top of the list, even though settling in with the laptop and the keyboard is pulling, and consciously unsettling…
As a mom, doesn’t really matter how many dresses we look at or consider, simply want them to get though the night, safe and sound. We’ve done this before, five or fifteen times in fact, and while it gets a little easier there’s always that low lying anxiety, letting them go, and letting them be.
Husband and I hosted pre-prom festivities for youngest of six, and it was festive, and chill. We’ve got this down, plenty of wine and booze for the adults, and sparkling apple juice for the dance goers. The adults can’t quite believe it, and the young can’t wait to get going.
Anyways, our door is open, and our hearts overflowing. These are the days. Enjoy, have a ball, and come home safe.
The post below we wrote days ago and never hit submit, it was one of those things. Longest winter I ever recall, except perhaps for blizzard of ’77, and then I was eleven, and ate frozen donuts for days on end. This time around we stayed in, and moped, and cooked.
Finally feeling like we’re getting back in the mix, it hit 72 degrees here today, and we put on a skirt. A navy tweed skirt and a brighter blue v-neck sweater, and some silver shoes. We like things easy, and this was easy.
Yesterday we went for a country drive, wedding planning and site visit, and did some chick pea quesadillas for dinner, that was easy too.
chick pea quesadilla with greens
scratch red pepper pappardelle with spinach and tomatoes on warmed plates
one lone pizza with pepperoni, women in the family moving towards plant-based meals
Even though we have sunshine the dogs don’t even really want to go out, it’s been so wickedly unspring like. We’re simply tucking in, and doing things like scratch red pepper pasta, and scratch pizza dough; come on fair weather we’ve got a wedding to shape up for, carb loading be over.
youngest of six at Providence College
While on the road the weekend before we toured Providence College, it was cold and windy there too. We spontaneously caught up with Steve Martin and Martin Short, they were spectacularly funny, and we’re still laughing.
hydrangea and eucalyptus, one on the left kind of checked out
Sorry for rambling unorganized post, simply working on getting back in the mix.
Youngest of six is headed to university this fall, and first daughter will be married this August, at home. It’s been a bit of a go-go, never really knew we needed heaters and air conditioners and generators and a foolproof rain plan for a tent out in the countryside, yikes. We’ve put on parties and dinners out there for decades, yet this one coming up is out of our ordinary, we’re wedding planning, and sending our youngest off to college, all in a short breath. Spent last weekend on the road to Providence RI, and the week or so before that in Charleston and Greenville SC. Not sure where we really are these days, on the road or in the air.
Husband has been into the Airbnb thing, and that is good. You get to settle in a bit and cook. If there’s a thing or two that can settle the soul it just might be losing your mind for a while and putting dinner out for a dozen or so. Time slows down when you’re at the table, with those you love.
Happy Monday everyone, we’re quickly headed into trunk show mode again, getting on with our other equal passion, helping women find clothing to wear and love.
