loves his girl(s)

[easyrotator]erc_41_1364135605[/easyrotator]

One, two, three, or four, spending time with your daughter(s) is time well spent. Husband here has gotten these two through so much in the last five years by making multiple road and air trips, and week plus long stays in both RI and MA. He loves his girl(s). Now they are through some of the rough spots and settled in for a bit in Boston, life is ever-changing.

Everyone knows really great things take a ton of time, all your money :), steps forward, steps back, and then, if you keep with it, good things happen.

So great to visit you both. Keep on learning, growing, loving.

Daddy loves his girl(s).

have a great night

let's celebrate

Amazing what you can do these days, especially when you begin to build a team: thanks Wendy.

Been talking about jumping in here and Wendy jumped. She came over while I was busy with my fashion and recruiting work and put this great invite together using a photo saved to external hard drive, which son had to do as we had thousands and they were slowing us way down. Two more team members, thank you.

Another amazing aspect of modern life- invite was created and ordered all online, blog post is going up by receiving jpg image from Wendy to my email address and then uploaded to WordPress on the iPad while husband drives us to Boston MA to visit two oldest daughters.  Love learning new things and it’s much more fun with others around.

Have a great night everyone. Make some dinner, light the candles, enjoy a glass of wine, spend time with those you love.

keeping it easy

[easyrotator]erc_42_1363905124[/easyrotator]

Hands down, dinner is so often a favorite part of the day. Here is what was put out last night, keeping it easy:

Fresh wild cod, asparagus, tomatoes and olives all prepped on jelly roll pans and seasoned with olive oil, kosher salt, and ground pepper. Arugula in a bowl with shaved parmesan, again dressed with olive oil and a little lemon. Two loaves fresh bread, great for buttered toast afterwards, and black rice simmered with vegetable broth on the stove top.

Throw three pans in the oven and roast away at about 375 or 400 degrees, no recipe or cookbook needed. Open a bottle of great white, food is good, husband happy, that’s huge, and we’re keeping it easy.

Used to individually plate all food for a nice presentation. Took hours. While in Jamaica several years ago the household staff set the table beautifully and served us our meals buffet style. Simple and brilliant. Totally copied that method. It works.

Happy Thursday everyone.

we’re having a party

[easyrotator]erc_14_1363835145[/easyrotator]

Alright, you forty-seven blog subscribers: mark your calendar if you like for Thursday, April 11th, 5 – 7 pm, downtown Buffalo NY, Perfetto, 617 Main Street, we’re having a party.

White wine, champagne, bite sized hors d’oeuvres and miniature cupcakes baked by yours truly will be passed to celebrate the one year anniversary of this here little blog, every day dress. Handsome DJ son will be on hand as well. First post was put up April 10th of last year, as he has class that night the celebration can wait a day. Education first, so Thursday, April 11th. Thursday is a better night out anyways.

Met today with restaurateur Antonio and his chef Adam. Dressed in you guessed it, black, of course, thinking we might need to rename this site every day black. Only kidding. Color will come out again when it stops snowing. 🙂

Would love to have you. If you check in here and read at all, you’re invited too. Simply reply to me here below and let me know you like to celebrate.  You’ll be included in the head count for the wait staff. Do not want to run out of the chardonnay.

Life is busy, life is good, every day dress, we’re having a party, please come.

ps. We look a little casual here on a snow day in March. Friend and colleague Mary asked, ‘well, what do you wear to a blog party?’ This girl here, will be wearing a dress…

xoxo

mashed

[easyrotator]erc_19_1363653280[/easyrotator]

Two Boston MA daughters say ‘keep it short.’ One works, one studies. The one that studies recently made dinner for handsome Boston College coed and he said, ‘what kind of potatoes are these, they are great.’ She said, ‘mashed.’ He asked again, no really, ‘what kind are they?’ Again, she said ‘mashed.’

He wanted to know the brand name. Are you kidding me? Never occurred to her that there was some other thing out there than potatoes, real butter, whole milk, and some kosher salt and pepper.

To keep those you love coming back to your table, make some ‘mashed’ potatoes.

ps. that black cardigan from Friday night out with husband? Wore it again Saturday night out to dinner in ski town, Sunday driving home, Monday for client fittings, Tuesday for client fittings and emergency root canal at 5:50 pm. That makes it five days in a row. Love outfit repeat and real butter. Keep things good and easy.

pss. every day dress needs some help. Couldn’t get the mashed photo and that black cardigan with western belt and blue jeans photo to upload for two days. This is a cottage industry here, jump on in…

that black cardigan

[easyrotator]erc_59_1363460795[/easyrotator]

Had to write about this: that black cardigan. Professionally I do two things; help women assemble great wardrobes over time and recruit, train, and mentor women that wish to do the same. During all the other hours of the day I do what most women do, spend time with those I love, in my case husband and six children, and cook and eat. Food rates right up there, for sure. Yes, there’s other stuff to do too, housekeeping issues, and we all have those.

While working with women for many years now and having four daughters, it seems to be that women want to look great and feel good in what they are wearing. Fashion confidence comes from fashion comfort. It’s a terrible thing to feel uncomfortable in the clothes you are wearing at any given time.

Okay, so let’s get to the point, right? Just wrapped a two-week Spring Trunk Show and the one piece I showed to every single client was that black cardigan. It got to the point that even my colleague got tired of me going there. Some took me up on it, some, not so much. Why so much effort? Because this thing will take you anywhere.

Worked all day and husband calls and wants me to meet him downtown to celebrate his verdict won. Also had to get 8th grader back to school so she could fulfill her volunteer school play commitment. Only had five minutes to get ready so grabbed that new black cardigan and pulled on the standard, fitted black skirt. Cardigan buttoned up for school, buttoned down for husband date.

At $348 it probably felt like a splurge for the clients that didn’t take it as they probably have a zillion black sweaters. At $348 for busy women that want to look great and feel good in what they are wearing, hands down a steal. Cotton rib, body conscious, slightly sexy, conservative if you want it to be and offering coverage, that black cardigan has it all. Fashion confidence comes from fashion comfort and when you’re out for the day, night, weekend, whatever, make sure that black sweater is the best you can do.

Every day dress does that black cardigan on a friday night out with husband after the middle school drop.

Wishing everyone a great weekend. xoxo

meet manolo

[easyrotator]erc_13_1363387157[/easyrotator]

Dear Mr. Blahnik,

You were warm, charming, engaging and made us feel welcome. You smiled for pictures and signed the soles of our shoes. Your suit was divine, your socks fun, and your shoes, well, you know, simply outstanding.

Will never forget my first pair: stood with new-born sixth baby in my arms while waiting for the daily circle of the UPS truck and my overnight package from Neiman Marcus. The precious box contained the Carolyne Mid-Heel Halter, Dark Brown, still a favorite style. Couldn’t wait to put them on, had really no place in particular to go, simply wanted them desperately. Actually wore them to sixth child’s christening and felt particularly grown-up, not sure if the feeling came more strongly from parenthood or from the shoes.

Twelve years have gone by, several (maybe many) more pair have been added, and your shoes continue to empower. They are beautiful and unbelievably comfortable. The cost, like the heel height, while maybe high at times, has not gone where others have, thank you.

Thank you for your impeccable style and for making women all over feel beautiful, each and every day.

Thank you, Mr. Blahnik, Bergdorf Goodman and professional and gracious second floor shoe staff, the Meet Manolo event was an absolute pleasure.

You are all, quite simply, outstanding.

Very truly yours,

Rebecca

march madness

[easyrotator]erc_65_1363232576[/easyrotator]

Spring 2013 Trunk Show that ended yesterday and was packed and shipped out to CA all in the same breath has totally created a posting pause. Can’t seem to do it all at the same time and it’s okay.

Getting ready to fly out on the 5:45 am flight tomorrow, Thursday, to present a small grouping of Summer 2013 in NYC. While all the big names have already shown Fall 2013, Summer 2013 in mid-March is feeling just fine.

To actually get out the door tomorrow needed to do some run around and restocking of the food supply. Since it’s snowing and freezing here and causing a bit of a feeling of fashion march madness, relied on black skinnies and fur-lined Jimmy Choo biker boots to get through it all. The lug sole combined with the slip on style just can’t be beat. Love those things.

Wanted to share that yes, it’s been hectic, and yes, we still sat down for dinner. With the lit candles. And fresh tulips and daffodils on the table. The blooming forsythia in the backyard is a total visual and spiritual mood enhancer.

Don’t you love the real life kitchen counter? That’s a half eaten chocolate bunny up front that’s been dunked in the Jiff peanut butter jar. Honest, it’s all cleaned up proper now.

Thinking that the real march madness will be when every day dress wears open toe sandals to New York tomorrow morning with a high temperature expected of 36 degrees. They at least have lug soles. 🙂

Thanks for reading. Every day dress heads out the door for Summer Fashion wearing mad open toe sandals in March, tomorrow. Wishing everyone the brightness of the coming Spring.

xoxo

let the belt speak

[easyrotator]erc_23_1362709319[/easyrotator]

Quick post: there are days when you really can’t think and again have to rely on a column of black. To continue on yesterday’s theme, black and navy, here is a simple way to get dressed in black and brown.

Classic black crepe wool trousers, fitted bodysuit, and let the belt speak. In this case, brown on black. A little more interesting than black on black for sure. Added a barely there neutral shoe, and, presto, dressed and ready for work.

Every day dress does black again, been trying to move people, and adds a brown belt. Keeping it simple.

Sometimes question myself on why blog? Answer from a younger friend, ‘we’re all really trying to do the same thing, get through the day with grace and maybe a little style, and you inspire us.’ Thank you, younger friend.

Husband walked in the door after his long day at work and said, ‘wow, you look nice.’ Day is done, life is good. Every day dress.

this is it

[easyrotator]erc_66_1362670022[/easyrotator]

Okay, so this is what I really wear when going out for dinner with husband, twenty-two year old son and twenty year old daughter- navy silk blouse and black wool long fitted zippered skirt. Been talking to clients about combining navy and black for multiple seasons, it works, simply try it.

This is it, no recent Botox, no slimming shape-wear. Simply the clothes and the forty-seven year old woman. Love that the new in make-up look is the smokey dark eye and the nude lip- if you like to eat and drink that cherry red lip from last year is kind of hard to keep up. Do the eyes, mouth is fine.

Ken Downing says to wear an armful of bracelets but I only have two, it will have to be.

Here goes, what the heck, every day dress at its most basic: navy silk blouse, black skirt, minimal make-up. Hope you all have a great silk blouse and go to black fitted skirt for when your loved ones want to get together for dinner out.

Thank you husband, will miss you Booie. Twenty-two year old son, always so great to see you. xo
