bought a remote

[easyrotator]erc_2_1351727426[/easyrotator]

New days are always new beginnings. Tomorrow, being November 1, can’t believe it, will be a new day. Blogging about fashion has been hard as this is a one woman show- love/need to care for husband and kids first, work second, and blog third. This week the volunteer community thing has been front and center and I can’t quite figure out how to get more done in one day.

In the spirit of bringing you more fashion info and looks, today bought a remote. And finally, after about four years, started to listen to the cd about camera usage. Photography, here I come…

Workaday outfit was of course black jeans, black silk blouse, black boots. Need to keep it simple when there is so much to do. Changed into a new top, with shoulder pads, for trick or treat festivities.

Trend alert, shoulder pads are making a comeback.

Every day dress. More tomorrow.

how to fit and wear suede pants

[easyrotator]erc_60_1351294438[/easyrotator]

A little runway to reality: these pants, on stunning russian runway models, are cropped. How to wear them if you’re not 5’11’ with a 34″ inseam? Came by this pair from a fashion industry colleague that had an extra. So, rather than send them back, seems to be my mojo now, decided to keep them. Here’s a few ways to make suede pants work for you.

First, make sure the pants fit well on the widest part of the body. This case, it’s the thigh and athletic curvy behind. Trainer enforces tons of leg work with heavy weights. The pant should fit the parts with the most curves.

Second, realize that suede, a natural skin, will give. This pair will stretch with wear and see the tailor for alterations after one or two outings. Have a good tailor that can nip in the waistline.

Third, if you can do and like cropped, go for it. It’s a big trend on the runway now. In my fashion book, the short-legged version, the leg should be visually lengthened in all ways possible. Instead of cropped, consider right to the ankle bone. Add a shoe or short boot in the same color family as the pant. Try keeping the weight of the pant pretty much equal to the weight of the shoe. With suede, consider having some texture or heft going on with your shoe.

Lastly, know that suede pants, much like life, are not always pristine. Knock them around a bit and relish in some of the scruff marks. Enjoy.

when the shoe fits

[easyrotator]erc_77_1350945788[/easyrotator]

Wasn’t planning on splurging on a new pair of Manolo Blahnik’s this past weekend. Dear girlfriend, also shoe size challenged, stopped by with two boxes of footwear her personal shoe stylist overnighted her from Neiman Marcus. Since she didn’t want to keep them all, might be a little much, she let me choose from her anticipated returns.

Happy result? This great pair of Zebra Printed Suede Pumps, size 42. Yes, you got that right, size 42, or the biggest they make, equivalent to US size 12. Normal size here is 41, or 11. Shoes, like jeans, sometimes need the five lb swing. No shame. After 47 years, six kids, countless miles logged both long-distance running and walking, the feet need shoes that fit.

It’s okay. Jackie Kennedy, I’ve read, wore a size 11 shoe. Her name speaks style.

Fashion and lifestyle piece? Feet should look great and footwear should be comfortable. When the shoe fits; buy it, keep it, wear it. Thank you, Amy.

Every day dress.

heather grey flannel pullover

[easyrotator]erc_88_1350579154[/easyrotator]

Crazy about this sweater. Received it on monday and have worn it pretty much ever since. It’s got a lot going for it- sophisticated style and laid-back comfort, not often easy to pull off together. For back to back construction project meetings, upcoming conference call and drive transfer of Fall Winter Collection clothes for Trunk Show tomorrow, this outfit has me covered. With a black tank top underneath and a pair of flat shoes stored in the bag this outfit will move through a long day of set-up.

leather jacket, again

[easyrotator]erc_73_1350437210[/easyrotator]

Same day, same jacket, different look. How many of you change your outfit during the course of your day?

For late afternoon soccer match, ditched the dress and high-heeled boots and styled the same jacket with blue jeans and flat boots. With some planning you can pull this off with five minutes and a place to change. Add a cabled cashmere scarf and stay warm on the sidelines.

Two youngest daughters at two different schools faced off against one another this afternoon. Couldn’t miss it. #4 and #11. Go Blue. Go Green.

ponte and leather

[easyrotator]erc_77_1350424573[/easyrotator]

On those days when you don’t even have time for mascara, here are two fabrications to turn to: ponte and and leather.

Ponte, a blend of viscose, polyamide, and elastane will comfort and shape your body quickly without showing any signs of wear. This fabric goes and goes. No wrinkles. Pull it on and zip it up. For mid-morning meeting and tasting for upcoming WNY Women’s Foundation Fall in Fashion Luncheon, put this piece on and felt dressed even without mascara.

Leather? It’s been a favorite for years. When children were young had to basically wear what they ate- so leather was often a go to choice. Simply wipe away. A little white vinegar on leather to remove spots is a good trick, too. The jacket seen here was purchased so many years ago (when children were young) can’t even tell you the season. Four of six children are grown and still wearing the jacket. Looks great and can finish a look in a hurry.

This is a busy week. Trunk Show mode. If you are feeling like somedays you don’t even have time for mascara, come see me. I will show you the ponte and leather pieces that will go the distance for you. Bonus point- the ponte even acts as a shaper. Dresses, pants, skirts, tunics. rcollins@worthnewyork.com.

stella mccartney sneakers

[easyrotator]erc_36_1350324370[/easyrotator]

Here’s some info promised from before- these sneakers are super comfortable, lightweight for packing, and chic. Really like the seasonal feather thing, keeps things fresh. Stella for adidas has some of the most fashionable workout gear out there.

These pictures were taken while walking in Italy with an iPhone. Yes, travel posts will stop soon, sorry. Honestly, today is a total office day and after checking blog traffic, increasing! thought some new content was in order. Not up for the tripod thing and photographer daughter has soccer game after school so can’t slip in any new photo time before the wordpress day clicks by.

It was fun to use a fancy bag as a crossbody with jeans and super comfortable and lightweight tee. Jeans are grey and tee is brown, don’t be afraid to keep the mixup going. As we were walking up some steep hills wanted to leave anything handheld back at the villa. Since the jeans always seem to be tight needed a place for the phone, lipstick, currency and credit cards, therefore Jimmy Choo Glitter Candy Clutch.

Jeans, DL1961 and sneakers, Stella McCartney, both purchased locally at Tony Walker & Co. Coffee Bean Faux Wrap Tee, Worth New York Fall 2012.

Back to work. Have a great Monday.

ps. Worth New York Trunk Show, October 19 – 25, by appointment. Email me at rcollins@worthnewyork.com. Pick up a tee or two; they instantly create a waistline on all women.

pss. Fashion conscious oldest daughter absolutely can’t stand when sneakers are worn out in public with jeans, sometimes just can’t help myself- don’t look Linnie. Any other opinions?

the details

[easyrotator]erc_66_1350178603[/easyrotator]

Lifestyle post:

The small stuff is often the big stuff. Villa in Italy? Absolutely gorgeous; six bedrooms, two kitchens, three fireplaces, infinity pool. After surveying the accouchements though felt we were missing something. Difficult to learn all that you can about an area and its wine while drinking from small ancient two ounce glasses. Three fireplaces, yes, but nothing can replicate the glow from candlelight on the dining room table. Linen or cloth napkins? Completely necessary.

First shopping outing was a dozen linen napkins in charming Monticchiello. Without a doubt, an even dozen. No credit card here so handed over euros. Happy to do so. Napkins came home in the checked luggage and will always remind us of communal festive dinners.

On the way to train station in Chiusi to pick up late arriving couple stopped in at small local wine store to check out appropriate glassware. Riedel? I’ll take eight, no, on second thought make that twelve, we might lose one or two. Everything we drank was infinitely better in those glasses. Shopkeeper had breathtaking local handmade candles as well. Picked up two. Add a few bottles of wine and we pretty much made her day.

Warm and charming housekeeper took care of us well. At the end of the stay couldn’t seem to part with our memorable goods and housekeeper was happy to help with shipping details. Handed her all necessary details without question. Double kissed her goodbye and now, ten days later, glasses and candles have arrived. Thank you. Shared fine meals continue.

What you do to enhance each day is totally worth thinking about the details. Two oldest daughters sharing an apartment in Boston MA now cook for one another, light the candles, enjoy a glass of wine together, and use real napkins. Couldn’t be happier.

When traveling, especially by auto, take the good glasses. It does make a difference.

This is small stuff, but really, big stuff. Every day dress.
