pop-up clam bake

So it’s summer and while most of us might be working it’s fun to be spontaneous too. Last weekend decided rather quickly to ditch the country place for the day and to drive to ski town, Ellicottville NY, for their annual outdoor music, fireworks, rodeo et al festival weekend.

We had to eat, couldn’t break that solid routine, so stopped at the local grocery without the slightest idea of a menu in mind and bought what looked good. It was Saturday, so the live lobsters they brought in for the weekend were priced to sell. Scooped up all seven that were left. There were eight of us so rounded it out with a bag of clams, some t-bone steaks, haricots vert and sugar snap peas, and an arugula and spinach salad. Food heaven. Had the ramekin butter warmers stashed away but no crackers or picks so we simply used some pliers from the basement and a rubber mallet we found to pre-crack the claws. Add some good white wine and some nice dark beer, pop-up clam bake indeed.

Okay, so that was the lifestyle piece. Now for the fashion: had this fun fringed donut stashed away too. Bought this piece several years ago and wore it all the time until I wore myself out. As it was cold that night and fringe is all around us, popped that thing on too and it felt great.

Here’s to Summer 2014, good times, good food, good clothes, and fringe.

Every day dress, eat and wear the good stuff. 🙂

All photos iPhone, it’s been quite crazy good busy.

white and chartreuse

IMG_8604A total favorite color combination going on right about now, early July, bright optic white and Chartreuse. Wikipedia calls Chartreuse a color halfway between yellow and green that was named because of its resemblance to the green color of one of the French liqueurs called green Chartreuse, introduced in 1764.

Louis Vuitton, maker of the bag, calls this color pistache. Or, according to internet research, chinese pistache: a tough colorful tree. While we’ve never been to Texas, and would love to go, it’s said that after a sizzling summer North Texans crave the first signs of fall, cooling rain showers, much like we had all day today in upstate New York, milder evening temperatures, yes we have that, and a changing landscape.

As we are about fashion and lifestyle, and fashion and life are ever evolving, fashion now and for Fall 2014 is a bit about a bright bag. Chartreuse, got it. When considering the foliage of the Chinese Pistache tree that pick so it’s said is tough and colorful and resistant to drought. Kind of liking that analogy, so the bag is resistant to trend or ‘it’ status?

Geranium? Thinking come August that will be right on. A bright bag set off of all white or black or black and white or really any color combination at all makes a strong statement.

When we’re not in the office we’re out in the garden: weeding, deadheading, watering, pruning. Skin is way too tan, nails way undone.

Every day dress, early July, white and Chartreuse, wish I had a photo of the white and Chartreuse hydrangea from ski country house, they are just about peak.

fall in love

After a spectacular long weekend filled with endless and abundant family, friends, food, and wine; it’s great to be back in the office and to fall in love.

Once the 4th of July comes and goes there’s definitely a shift. A shift in mood, a shift in time, and a shift in fashion. Sure, we’re all about enjoying every single summer day, we’re also  all about the season ahead. Good things require time and planning, and now here at every day dress it’s time to fall in love with Fall 2014.

Here’s some more photos I took last month of some of the pieces I’ll be dressing my clients in for Fall 2014. While there’s still the skinny leg going on, take note of the design flair of the bootleg. It’s happening now and with a heel it’s a great way to balance out some good curves.

Every day dress, fall in love.

blue jeans, stripes, and black

IMG_8512IMG_8514

This weekend, we’re keeping it easy and there’s not much easier than blue jeans and black. Add some stripes and maybe some silver and you’ve got an easy downtime all american kind of look.

IMG_8510IMG_8525

Really keeping it easy with no make-up, thirteen to just about forty-nine. Sometimes you just have to be.

Happy 4th of July all. May your day be filled with family, friends, and love.

Every day dress, blue jeans, stripes, and black.

summer concert dress

photo 1photo 2photo 1

Maybe you’re headed to an outdoor concert this weekend or sometime this summer and you’re perhaps two times or even three times the age of the fans. What to wear?

A dress might be good. Leave the short shorts and even the long shorts for home alone time or when you know most of the people you’re with. Looking about last night at Artpark in Lewiston NY the best dressed among the men and women had on dresses and long pants. ALL the musicians had on long pants and they looked GREAT and COOL. Thank you Phillip Phillips and O.A.R.

For an outdoor summer concert, a dress felt good and right. We’re all about feeling good in your clothes, and when they feel right it feels good.

Loose undone hair, flat Rockstud sandals, a pair of sunglasses, all set, out the door, and we’re not trying too hard.

Every day dress, summer concert in a dress.

oversold

photophotophoto 5photo 2

With the 4th coming feeling a little like we’re off the hook. Had the big bash last weekend, and yes, oversold.

imagephotophotophoto

It’s a great feeling when everything seems to come together and the stars are aligned. Dear friend and I make a great team, we got progressive, wine beer booze at her place and BBQ here, across the street.

imageIMG_8436

All hands were on deck and it was homegrown. Husband did the wine, French and CA, she did the first bar and organized the grill, BW’s, chicken, ribs, mac & cheese, baked beans, caesar salad, roll and butter. Her man worked overtime and took care of the zillion pounds of ice, what’s a party without the ice?

IMG_4903

We had Negroni cocktails, so fun, and even each rang the old-fashioned dinner bell to signal end of the cocktail hour(s).

I baked 15 dozen chocolate chippers, she called up the bakery and had 15 dozen country cut-outs made up beautifully.

IMG_1652IMG_1654

Her tip was the band, every day dress here made the call and was honestly a little nervous until they showed in the flesh.

Total mixed guest list, thirteen to eighty-plus, love that kind of thing, bonfire near the end.

Late stayers danced down to Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, and company.

BBQ was oversold, yippee, so much better than being overdone or overdrawn, haha. Now we’re overstocked, yay, with opened bottles of wine, glasses, candles, and ferns. No problem, have a party early and you’re all set up for the summer.

Happy Holiday Week everyone.

Every day dress, oversold. 🙂

weeknight dinner

photophotophotophotophoto

Even when you’re dog tired coming together at the end of the day is always a good thing. Make some dinner, light some candles, enjoy a glass of wine. Linen napkins help too.

New mustard shoes with rubber soles and short shorts make it easy to get stuff done.

Every day dress, weeknight dinner.

white feels right

IMG_8453IMG_8461

For the BBQ, wore all white. Was planning on a great white dress, husband thought jeans were a far better choice. White jeans, white cutaway, black boots. Right now all white feels right.

IMG_8472IMG_8475

Whiskey barrels with blue Hydrangea punctuated the gravel driveway. It was a great night.

Every day dress, all white feels right.

Wishing everyone a fantastic Monday.

love what you do

IMG_8412IMG_8413IMG_8414IMG_8415

It’s quite great when you love what you do. One of the things that gets to be done with the real job, the one that actually sends a 1099, is write. Write about what you do. Today wrote this:

Do you…
love what you do
enjoy being around fun and interesting women
like to set your own schedule
like to determine how much money you make
love to wear beautiful clothing
enjoy helping others look and feel great
seem intrigued by the idea of a home office
have time for yourself?

fringed, and guilty

IMG_8396IMG_8405

As fringe is a happening trend now and into Fall Winter 2014, recently added these fringed black Valentino boots to the footwear rotation. Actually, asked the husband to treat, and as there was really no heel involved, he said yes.

Plan on debuting them this Saturday night, every few years or so good friend and I host a country barbeque for a mixed bunch of town & country folk. Guest list is always fun, and diverse.

IMG_8387

She’s completely social and loves lunches, dinners, group exercise classes, cards, travel, opera, has joined a running club, etc., keeps a good calendar and keeps good track of RSVP’s. She plans ahead, makes and keeps social commitments, and from what I know of her always replies to other invites in a proper and timely fashion. LOVE her.

Used to be like that. Now kind of guilty of being orderly underneath but much more spontaneous.  Full time job squared, lots of kids, man I love to be around, and a couple of houses will do that for sure. Big groups here at every day dress are a normal thing now and the feeling is with practice and patience and some up front planning it will always work out and there’s always room for a few more.

Guilty too in that I’ve been one of those very last-minute RSVP’s. Not nice, I know. 🙂

We make a good pair. She keeps me on task about how many bartenders and what time are they are showing up and like how much are we paying them? And what are the tablecloths and what are we putting on those tables?

So, friend, looked at tablecloths last night and even though we always like the real deal thinking we’ll go with red and white plastic gingham? The real deal will blow our budget and it is a barbeque, right? And potted low ferns for the tables? Saves us from cutting and arranging and watering fresh flowers and those ferns will look great around the house and on the porch after the shindig.

And the fringed boots? Those will go with I think a white dress and come fall I’ll pair them with something like this:

IMG_0011

Fringed, and guilty. We’ve been scrubbing floors, pulling weeds, painting the coop. 15 dozen chocolate chip cookies now on deck.

Every day dress, 106 or so for wine beer booze and barbeque this Saturday night, no problem, all will be fine.
