Simple style notes: we’re working, cooking, baking, running to the airport, cleaning house, so the dress memo is black skinnies, grey tee, (untucked and it can be longer that your jacket or sweater), black suede comfortable open toe shoes because we’ve actually got a great pedicure, and super luxe cashmere cowl sweater. The silver safety-pin thing around the neck with the readers hanging off? That’s actually a belt, and my partner started a trend. We’ve been wearing our belts that have chains around our necks and hanging our readers and/or glasses off of them. Without those things we can’t see a thing.

The blog here is a little under construction: twenty-five year old son and soon to be twenty-three year old daughter are pitching in for the upgrade. It’s a pretty cool thing to put your faith and trust in others and let them run with it for a little. We’ll be working away for a few weeks, nothing comes quick or easy.

Fifteen year old daughter snapped these outfit pictures yesterday, we’re always in a hurry and they took place in about ten minutes flat. It’s a family affair for sure.

Outfit shown is what we wore out Saturday night to an engagement party for a young woman we’ve know for two decades now, so so happy for her and her beautiful family. Heart is bursting.

Style note: sometimes you’ve just gotta get it all out there. Lace, satin, fancy shoes, statement lipstick, dangling earrings that we’re a gift from second daughter while she studied in Seville, Spain, crazy wrist party and a white leather gold grommet studded handbag.

While usually a minimalist, sometimes it’s fun to just pile it on.

Thanks for reading, blog has had lots of site visits- not sure what’s going on out there in the blogosphere, one of the reasons we called in the two young guns.

 

Sunday lifestyle post here: to feed your crowd in a hurry, try like an hour and a half, first preheat the oven to 425 degrees and then run to the grocery. Ask for a whole beef tenderloin, take two halves as that’s what they have. Add five bunches of asparagus, two dozen eggs, one dozen bagels. Scout the flower section and tuck in three small yellow rose plants.

Once home, start to rouse everyone out of bed and call/text to get the young adults over. Once it’s noon, send second daughter out again to grab three bottles of champagne. Take those petite rose plants out of their cellophane and dump them in small, cheap pots. Put two of your guests or youngest children on setting the table.

Get all others in the kitchen, no recipes, measuring or cookbooks this day; everyone’s hungry and has somewhere to be. Butcher was busy too so had to trim and tie as best we could, we all should have some sharp shears and kitchen string on hand. Kosher salt, pepper, butter, rosemary and olive oil dressed it all up.

We’re all kind of carnivores here, oh well. Every day dress and steak and eggs. It’s that time of year again, feed your crowd. Simple, easy, fun.

Absolutely gorgeous fall, and we’ve been all about it.

We’re a fan and we’ve followed India Hicks on Instagram for some time now, even before she launched her new lifestyle business. Friend and client is now on her team, and one of the first things we bought was this charm on a cord that’s engraved with the words ‘get your hands dirty’.

Exactly our thoughts here at every day dress. We’ve shared too that Donna Karan’s My Journey was on our nightstand. As fashion, design, food, and women here are almost always intertwined, here’s a passage from the book that’s been on the brain:

Essential list of what one needs to do in life:

1. Fill your own gas tank.
2. Buy your own groceries.
3. Make your own bed.
4. Do your own laundry.
5. Cook your own meals.

While these might not be absolute, we all love to have help and restaurant nights out for sure, it’s essential we are sufficient to ourselves and those we love. Simply, get your hands dirty. India Hicks and company, wishing you much continued success. Love wearing those words on a cord.

For a fundraising luncheon on Friday, wore a high collared, long-sleeved, over the knee silk print dress, with new over the knee black leather boots.

Second daughter thought the look was no fun, we here we’re okay. Not sure if it’s the fifth decade, yet we’re kind of feeling like all covered up is the way to go, and even sexy in an offhand way.

Spent internet hours deciding on which over-the-knee boots to have express shipped in, these are a tough thing to get right women and we just went for it. Most of them are designed for a 5’11” frame legs up to the arms. Not happening here, no way, so just decided to own it and ordered the block heel #walkable boot from Gucci. We looked at them all, way way too much, and this was the pick.

Every day dress, all covered up. We like to inspire women to feel good in what they wear, and to sometimes go beyond.

Promise we won’t turn this blog into food only, we’ve been a little shy on the outfit posts while we’re sweating it out in the gym. 🙂

Chicken Pot Pie doesn’t necessarily count for double points in the looking svelte department, yet it sure can comfort a Sunday night family dinner. Next night we served up a variation, all takes from the weekend trip to the farmers market. Roasted sliced chicken from the day double batch the day before, lightly pan-fried to warm it up, sliced home-grown radishes and cooked beets all on top of a bed of greens. Local delicious chèvre from First Light Creamery spread on medium sliced toast balanced it all out. We couldn’t let the scooped out pulp from the jack o’lantern sit unused, so roasted those seeds up with a little butter and kosher salt. So sweet.

Professionally we’ve been outfitting our clients in things like a Firecracker Red Crepe Jersey Sashed Jumpsuit, a Breen Shocking Pink Doubleface Neoprene Jacket, or a Vicuna Suede Laced Wrap Skirt so on our downtime we just can’t seem to shake the blue jeans black sweater combo.

We’ll get there, gorgeous clothes are simply an outfit away.
